Re: GDB Studios, Hollywood -- Custom Painting Services Offered
Commission work
Turn Around Time
Typically about 3 weeks. I have a lot of experience being creative while working on a deadline. The way I approach each head is by giving myself a one week deadline from start to finish. (I like to work on at least 3 heads at a time this way.) But I also believe in rewriting. So I like to give each head a couple days of just sitting on my work area so I can decide if it needs any futzing.
If a project turns out to be a real head-scratcher and I can't get something to how I like it I may need to keep it an extra week or so.
Quality
I use artist quality acrylic paint and never use pre-mixed flesh tones. I use multiple layers of very thin coats.
Shipping
I try to ship promptly. I charge $5 per shipment to ship anywhere in the continental US. Outside that will be looked up as needed but is usually $7.50.
Work Load
I like to keep things light and manageable. I have no interest in taking on the big boys on this site or in following the soul crushing route of others. No drama gdb, that's me.
Price
Price for a head paint depends on the complexity of the sculpt, how time consuming the project looks, how much paint and supplies will be involved, etc. But I've got it down to three categories: simple head paints -- and these are the majority of head paints -- are $60. Complex head paints -- bloodied or bruised or a thick stubble beard -- are $70. And super-mega-complex which take twice the time and effort cost, well twice as much. Thankfully I have only come across two super-mega-complex: Andy B's John Locke and Hot Toys Predator.
Payment
Personal checks are great as there are no Paypal fees involved and you're sending me something anyway, but Paypal is always accepted. You can pay me at any point in the process but is only required at the end.
Availability
Currently, yes.
Reference Photos
The more reference photos and input you want to give, eye direction, tone, mood, etc. the less work I have to do so those are all encouraged.
Fine Print
Let's see, um....
I may want to take pictures of the heads I paint and post them in my show off thread or wherever else all portfolio like. If this is a problem, let me know beforehand.
