This is the way we celebrate the example of Fanon, Louverture, of Che and Brother Malcolm, who first inspired us by their fight behind enemy lines for the liberation of their people.

To the oppressed, we say, don’t despair. Hopelessness will fall away in the face of the victories we achieve for all.

To those who struggle, know that you don’t struggle alone. We fight with you, we fight for you.

To those that condemn us, know that in end it is you who will be judged, not only by those that you stand against, but by history as well.

To the establishment, to the filth, to the oppressors, if you want to find us, this is where we are. On every street, in every house, in every shop in this country.....where people yearn for decent wages, fair housing and equal protection under the law. It is this for which we live, and for which we fight...to the death, if necessary. This is the age of the United Federated Forces of the Black Army faction. Power to the people! ✊?

WIP 90%.

Initially, the plan was just to have the head sculpt done, but this is another passion project of mine. Please drop a comment if you’re interested in making this a full run.

Sometime in late 1966, two college students watched an old World War II film about the French Resistance. Inspired by the characters’ revolutionary zeal and style, one turned to the other and said, “Let’s wear berets, man.”

The speaker was Bobby Seale, and he was addressing his friend Huey P. Newton. They had recently founded the Black Panther Party for Self Defense (which later simply became the Black Panther Party) and, cognizant of the need for what Mr. Seale called “good visuals,” had settled on a uniform that consisted of a black leather jacket, blue shirt, black slacks and polished, black shoes.

From Che Guevara to the Black Panthers, it’s been an eternal symbol of revolution and counterculture. The beret is iconic within the Black Panther movement and was worn as a sign of revolution.

The duo’s grasp of image was impeccable. In countless photographs taken of the Panthers and other political groups of the era—the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC), Students for a Democratic Society—Black Panther Party members stand out. They looked sleek, militaristic and, to many Americans of the era, menacing.
