My wife Jen has been bugging me about doing Avatar The Last Airbender for a least 3-4 months now. It's one of her favorite shows and I keep putting it off because I have so many of my own figures I want to do, plus I'm not really into anime figures and anime in general all that much. But the more I thought about it and brainstorming with her, I thought, "hey why don't we do an ultra-realistic version instead?"

So I'm thinking of doing Avatar in a more realistic take, making him look a little older, and more of like a battle-hardened fighting monk. I'll keep the look of the anime series' clothing, tattoos, etc., but would use a muscular body. I want to figure out a way to pull off his staff so it actually opens up into the glider if possible.

Any of you guys might be interested in something like this? I'll end up making one for Jen and eventually do more characters from the series so I just want to see what everyone thinks. :)

Wow John! This sounds amazing and intriguing artistically....Aang has been depicted in two stages so far...as a boy and as an adult (Legend of Korra)..can't wait to see your take!

Yeah Jen told me she wasn't wild about the Legend of Korra and she never really got into it. I've watched a lot of the episodes of Avatar with her and liked it so I'd want to keep something close to that. It would be fun to do something as close to the animation, but it's hard finding any really articulated anime styled bodies in this scale too.

You had me on board until I read realistic take would love to see the animated version good luck with this.

I plan on using the HT Slim body for Aang. I'd keep with the proportions and anime features of the head/sculpt so it's not a super realistic sculpt. I think doing his staff/kite weapon is probably the harder and more challenging aspect than getting a good mix of anime/realistic feel on the head to be honest. :p
