Re: Captain America Super Soldier set(+1/6 Military Case for free!) <ready for order
I've just received my Super Soldier set with the military case!
I apologize for the poor quality smart phone photo. I have the uniform on a Soldier Story body as a mannequin for the time being. I am currently scouting around for a good head sculpt and body for the uniform. I also need to get a pair of boots and perhaps hands...and a gun and a holster. Okay, so I need a lot of stuff!
My review of the set:
Pros:
- The uniform looks great. The material has a dull sheen that really helps give it form, which is necessary due to the large amount of dark blue in the colour scheme.
- The colours! Perfect to my eyes. It looks great in person.
- The way that the belt pouches are adjustable on the belt and can slide into various placement positions is a great touch.
- The bonus military case is an awesome extra in this set.
Cons:
- The shield that I received, unfortunately, is somewhat warped and there appears to be excess plastic in some spots. This negates the visual appeal of a perfect circular shield that I normally see on Captain America. However, I can fix the warping with the old "heat up with a hair dryer or hot water and then reshape" trick. I also understand that independently produced items will have varying degrees of imperfections.
- The military case has a significant patch of paint chipped off the front. Again, this is an issue I can understand and easily fix on my own.
- The gloved fists are a nicely sculpted. As others have noted, the paint application is a bit simplistic. On the other hand, I would have to colour match the exposed flesh of the fists to whatever head sculpt I choose so I already knew that I'd have at least a bit of painting to take care of.
All in all, this is a great custom set and I thank jura for providing an option for those, like myself, who want a 1/6 Captain America/Steve Rogers Super Soldier figure in their collection.
