Currently using an elastic but I think the final product will be snap.

Would the snap bulge along the edge?

Guys don't worry. I will make it so It works how it's done will be up to me. I am currently doing the berets and then will work on the Ties. I'll work out the kinks when I come to the tie.

The original size/look (I'm thinking a TAD bigger may be ok), but with a piece of cardboard inside it to help it retain that flattish shape would probably be ideal.

no. it already keeps its shape wit proper futzing, if you want to a certain way add some cotton
