Looking for interest in an Indiana Jones jacket as seen in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
The tailor on this one will be GeeWhiz Customs.

This is for the leather jacket by itself.

The price will be $170 USD + shipping per jacket.
The above price also accounts for the prototyping fee to be split 10 ways.

The reference pictures being used are these:

If you're interested, please provide your input / concerns etc. The reference images are the clearest I could find, from Wested Leather who still makes 1:1 replicas of the original jacket.

Hi. I'm interested in. But, you should refer to "Hero jacket" made by Wested leather, if you are aiming at actual Raders jacket... It has no alterations than original.
Fair enough - definitely happy to go that way, please post any extra pictures as well if you think they might be useful.

So, does it mean it would be leather?
Yes - at least that was what was mentioned during the quote but I'll make sure to clarify this. I definitely want real leather.
It's the collar that I'm most concerned with though, so material types will need to be considered carefully so that it can sit correctly. If we can get the collar sitting more like Kato's version that would be great.

The backing linings are all redbrown cotton. Side belts' buckles of action pleats are box type, not D ring.
Zipper's color is nickel.
And, actual props were more dark tone color because of a leather oil with ageing damages.

For $170 that may not be real leather. Kato's, if I remember was like $250 range in real leather.

When I had GW do the Ragnar outfit, I had to supply the real leathers needed for all parts.
And a recent " " I got for a leather vest only(which I would supply the real leather for) was about
your price, unless it was 10 or more.

So unless you're supplying the leather, my guess would be synthetic.

I'd be interested if it were real leather though. They do very good work
with real leather. So any price point less than Kato's in real leather,
would draw a lot of interest I think.

So let us know.

Thanks

Ike

The collar would sit correctly if it's the right thickness of leather.
You'd most likely want 1oz to 1.5 oz for the jacket/collar
and belts. Just talking from personal experience.

Thanks guys, all very good info.

Ike, from what you're saying it does sound like they may have been quoting on synthetic leather.
I do have some 1oz kangaroo leather but it's chrome tanned and no good for this project. The thinnest vegetable tanned leather I've found locally is closer to 2oz so I might need search a little harder on the international market. I'll be happy to supply the leather if I can get enough in the correct thickness, but I'll send an email to clarify with GW all the same.

You can thin leather down to any thickness you like. I go paper thin sometimes.

It will all depend on how manageable they find it to sew.

SJ2,
Will there be a proto pic before placing an order?

Definitely. Rather than calling for deposits up front, what will happen is that if we get enough people interested to keep the per-jacket costs low I will pay for the prototype to be made. The prototype is expensive but well worth it to make sure we all get what we want.

Then after the pictures are shown, those who are still interested will be required to pay the full amount up front to secure their spot.
I don't want to be left footing the bill if people pull out, so I won't place the order with GW until 10 people have paid in full.

If for whatever reason 10 people don't end up paying the full amount, all money will be refunded to those who have paid and the project will be cancelled.

I think this is the fairest way to make sure I'm not up for thousands in costs if people withdraw, and to make sure people don't need to pay the deposit on a product they may not even like.

Is this all ok with everyone?
