Anyways. Back to business...
Jnix,
This one, I believe was photoshopped by Timemeddler. It's absolutely perfect:

Ah, that was me actually :wave

Just saying...

That sculpt with the Mandible iris manip though :drool

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking orders!!

I'd like to see the painted sculpt with Hamill's eyes - I'm still not convinced by the eye decals but that would help me decide if I like the likeness at all.

I think it will look great in hand, decal or no. I mean we are looking at it in extreme close-up. Putting it in perspective:

I don't think you guys would even know it was a decal if no one told you...

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking orders!!

I dunno, there are a lot of expert art directors and photoshop whizzes in this forum who know what's what.

Actually, that statement is the exact opposite of correct. I was the first person on the boards to get a painted Han and the first person to notice the eyes were decals.

So :pfft:

While the eyes on Han used decals, based on the images Jnix has provided to date, the eyes on Luke appear hand painted. There's too much subtle variance in color application between the two irises and pupils.

As a scale model hobbyist, professional artist, and sometime printmaker I could also tell after in-hand inspection the Han eyes were decals. But unlike a lot of modelers I don't have issues with decals as long as they're handled correctly and blended sufficiently into the overall piece. The give away is always the dot matrix pattern on the decal - though most would only notice if observed under a loupe.

So :pfft: x 2 (In good fun)

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking orders!!

Also, looking more closely at the paint app on his Luke prototype, this piece is going to rule. The fine capillary and freckle action going on at close inspection of the images is phenomenal. :bow

I recently received back from a Jnix paint commission of Rocco's Yojimbo and it's extraordinary. He turned it around in record time - under a month - extremely fast. I don't know how he delivers such high quality in such a short timeframe. No other artist I've worked with has delivered such results as quickly. And that's not to knock others - it's just a testament to Jnix's super-human powers. I'll post pix soon of the Yojimbo piece in that separate thread once I have a chance to properly photograph.

Well, I'm deadly serious about my raspberries. :wink1:

I agree though, I couldn't care less whether they were decals or not, as long as Han looked amazing, which he did. Looking forward to seeing your Yojimbo (ooh-er missus).

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking orders!!

Apologies for those that are getting frustrated with us photoshopping folk...

I've been playing around with the eyes to see what makes a noticeable difference to bring out the closest Luke Skywalker/Mark Hamill look.

I think I've got it: slightly larger iris, lowered, to nearly the bottom of the eye (so there is minimal white under the iris), darker, with a tad more blue.

This may not be 100% to Hamill, but (for me anyway) it "feels" closer to real eyes than the previous version (on left - new on right).

This really highlights just how jaw-dropping Jnix's sculpt truly is!

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking orders!!

What I always find a little humorous about these recent "slight" changes in photoshop are that I think some folks forget that in hand you won't be able to see a mm change in the size of an iris. This sculpt will be the size of your thumb and your eye won't be able to tell the difference. Even in these 3x larger photos, I can barely see the differences let alone imagine seeing the difference in hand :lol

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking orders!!

Well, all I can tell you is that the sculpt is phenomenal. Can't wait for the day when we can look at everyone's in-hand photos.

Some people appreciate attention to detail - others appreciate films like Suicide Squad...

To each his own.

Imagine if Jnix had the "near enough's, good enough" attitude. "Oh well, it's only 1/6 scale. They'll never be able to see those minor details anyway. He's got two eyes, a nose, and a mouth... what more do they want?"

I'm surprised you bought a Jnix Han - would have thought you'd be happy with your HT or SSC sculpts - barely see the differences in hand anyway?

Hey now...I wasn't making any sort of pot shots at anyone. I replied to your post as you mentioned ppl getting frustrated with all the photoshop manipulations and I was giving my thoughts on why I get frustrated with them, which as stated, was b/c I literally see no difference in the two pics you posted side by side. Is that so wrong? I had nothing to say against the early ones as I do believe they helped Jnix make the sculpt closer to ANH Luke. However, it gets to a point where IMO it becomes a bit much and a bit overkill.

I wouldn't be in this hobby if I didn't appreciate attention to detail. To give you some background, I am an Architect. Detail is what I do all day, every day for nearly a decade, not to mention that I, too, customize figures, paint and sculpt. I wouldn't have bought a Jnix Han if I didn't see the difference. Have you ever sculpted before? Have you ever actually painted a headsculpt? painted the eyes? Do you know how much time it takes? How frustrating it can be for an artist themselves let alone have other people constantly tell you it's not there yet? B/c I do. That' all I'm getting at. I'm not someone who just constantly buys someone else's work w/o knowing all that goes into it. I've got my own first hand experience w/ 1/6 customizing for 1/6 collectors. I know photophop...and I know it's a lot easier to make a change there than it is to do it in hand.

For there record, I am in no way comparing my talents to Jnix. He is extremely talented, one of the best I've seen which is why I bought his work. I meant no offense by my initial post, so take it down a notch, please.
