Hmmm, I think the slightly open mouth is a good 'general' expression for Michael Biehn. Even between words his mouth is like that. And it works as an 'action' expression where a closed mouth, blank face would not.

Re: T1 Kyle Reese by DCHUNG

Its accurate but feel weird and look nice for an action pose.
I prefer a determined look with mouth shut wich is not de facto bland (or most of figure are bland too) ^^
Most open mouth figure look silly to me.
Well we ll see :)

Re: T1 Kyle Reese by DCHUNG

When I started, I kept faces fairly expressionless for greater versatility because I didn't want to get locked into one expression.

But my philosophy has changed... I guess I got tired of all these different characters in my display case, just standing straight, and looking forward. It got repetitive, and a little boring...

So I decided I preferred dynamic poses and faces with an iconic expression. I try to pick the most representative expression for the character from the movie for my sculpts now.

This is why Doc is zany, Marty is stunned, Ben Richards is squinting (looking at all the blood-thirsty Killian fans), and for me Kyle here is saying, "Come with me if you want to live." (Or you can imagine him saying, "I came across time for you, Sarah.")

At any rate, this is just a personal thing, my sculpting philosophy, and I think it helps me capture a better likeness and make the character more "alive".

I say this having tried the closed mouth expression on Michael Biehn in the early going on this sculpt, and it just didn't seem like "him" to me (reminded me of that old Hot Toys sculpt)... Once I opened the mouth, and put in the shape of his lips (sort of a rhombus, really)... the likeness set it...

I've got a mix of the more "traditional" and "character specific" sculpts on my display, and can appreciate both. What ultimately matters to me is that the character gets captured in the sculpt, and you surely did that here. Now I'm pretty dang excited about getting a nice complement to my Tech Noir figure. Sarah Connor would also be nifty.

I wish I was as optimistic as some of you guys are re: a Hot Toys police shootout Arnie, but if you just look at what they're doing right now I think that there is a less than 50/50 chance of it. I was hopeful for the longest time, but now I'm starting to read the writing on the wall. If it does happen, it will probably be another 2 or 3 years at least. *sigh*

DAMNN!! Im down for this...name added to your interest list.

Re: T1 Kyle Reese by DCHUNG

I don't think blank expressions are as 'fits all' as people seem to think anyway. Particularly not if you're displaying one figure ''interacting'' with another. With Reese he wouldn't just be standing there on my shelf, he'd be firing at the HT T-800 or holding Sarah by the arm. A blank face wouldn't look right.

Re: T1 Kyle Reese by DCHUNG

Because of the nature of the Terminator, this is definitely one figure that can have an extreme expression, and be perfectly compatible with a blank faced T-800.

Re: T1 Kyle Reese by DCHUNG

Kyle Reese is such an expressive character. He never really stands there looking stoic - there is lots of screaming and emoting with him. I think that the expression chosen would work perfect.

Well body's i would say hit figure as i like the rubber torso and hate the removeable neck verison.
Also they are nice and cheap too.

Will the head sculpt come un-painted too?
