Great start.

How will these attach to the body?

Any idea how long the tentacles will be? If the they are too long they will droop from their own weight. There's a lot of mechical bits to work out on this build.

Definitely a lot to consider, but I have many ideas. The tentacles are currently 25cms long. I am planning on using gooseneck tubing for flexibility and strength. The diameter I got supports the current weight with no problem.

The idea would be to connect the tubing directly to the body.

How will you connect the tentacles to the body? Glue? I think you may have to modify the body so they can be screwed or drilled or bolted in. 2 part epoxy *might* do it.

Or maybe build a wrap around frame for the body where the tentacles can be screwed in? Maybe glue the frame to the body. More surface for the glue.

Exactly. My initial thought was to modify the body with anchor pegs. Then the tentacles could be affixed to the anchor pegs for a very secure connection.

Hey everyone, wanted to share my tests on a poseable tentacle.... It has turned out much better than I expected. Let me know what you think.

A few pictures, but mostly a video, as that shows off the function much better...

Looks great. Is it heavy?

I haven't weighed it but it's pretty darn light. Could a figure stand up with four of them and no support? Nope, but not because of the weight, but because the center of balance.

However the tentacles are so poseable you can easily use one posed in a natural way as a support for him just as you see him use them in the film.

I tried this project years ago by modifying the cheap doc ock 12" figure of way back. I joined the tentacles together to make one long one, and then attached it to the body. The problem I had was that the tentacles were so heavy that they just drooped. Top and bottom.

As you can see in the video the tentacles completely hold their own weight no matter the position you put them in. I tried to illustrate that with multiple poses. At the beginning and end of the video you can see the tentacles completely straight out with no droop at all.

No, I mean they would droop from where they attached to the body. They would hold their articulated position, but they would just flop straight down (still in that same position). They were just too heavy to be supported.

Gotcha. I'll be doing some experiments with a spare body I have soon, so we'll see.

Nice Work, looking forward to seeing your progress. If you're looking for a one off trench coat, again the toy biz doc ock has a coat that is actually really nice. I've seen a really high quality looking doc ock using that coat:

https://www.sideshowcollectors.com/...4-custom-dock-ock-spiderman-2-1-6-figure.html.

That head is also from one of the Toybiz 12" doc's, either the plastic roto one or the clothed one the coat and tentacles were sourced from, in that custom.
