There's no reason for everyone to beat up each other. Again, I don't think anyone meant anything negative towards Denny and MW. Everyone is here with every intention of giving up their hard earned cash to obtain another masterpiece from Denny and his crew. Hopefully Denny will relax and come back and see that. So let's all take a :chillpill: and :grouphug

Frankly, I think there was a bit of an over-reaction here if you see these comments in isolation. But it's also pretty easy to see how something like that would be the straw that broke the camel's back in Denny's case, considering some of the frustrations he has voiced in the past. Calling part of his operation "rushed" is a bit of an insult no matter how you try to slice it, even if it is a fairly minor one (Denny isn't just involved in project development of course, but also the business side, including the decision of when to open up a pre-order). Maybe he did want to get some funds in sooner to fund some of his staff though, as it's true that he has said before that he pays for employees now with funds obtained for future projects. But more than that it's probably his trying to put figures out at a certain pace. If you set this one back 2 months or so because of minor changes that aren't going to affect pre-order levels in any notable way, and if that could throw off the whole release schedule he has mapped out, then the rational thing to do would be to put the pre-order up with the preliminary prototype.

I guess everybody forgot about Moe already?? And serang. . . and the other guy. . . and the guy before that. Isn't this why this sub-forum has rules, or I guess they're more "guidelines", yeah??

If funds for Inspector are used for Freedom Warrior, then it stands to reason that Goodfellas will be used for Inspector, and so on. . . so what happens to that last project, when there's nothing else to fund the current one??

I can't be the only one thinking this. . .

Denny is a really nice guy, very accommodating, and approachable, and I see he is just frustrated at the moment but to be completely honest, I am also frustrated.

I simply asked why not delay pre-order till the proto pics are more complete, to not cause confusion amongst his customer base like the freedom warrior proto pics did and yet I'm met with the backlash i.e. "dumb comments" "where is the trust" "stated demands" "well done **** heads"... really? Perhaps it was the use of the word "rush", I was not intending to use it as it is being taken, obviously Denny's team works very hard and doesn't slack off, and they deserve to be paid. But when I wrote rush I meant "too soon", as in "it seems too soon to release the proto pics before the figure is final".

I know money doesn't dictate everything but I have been supporting Iminime/MasterWorks for a long time. And it sits very wrong with me that Denny or anyone else would see me as someone writing words on this forum with a malicious intent, everything I wrote was to better the process. Majority of the items listed below I have now sold off, but that does not represent the quality of the figures but instead my personal taste and how I am always moving around my collection and refining it. Iminime was supported by all that money none the less and its because I respected the company to pay up front every single time and because I extremely enjoyed what I saw prior to release.

Hey man, I don't think you need to keep defending what you said or list what you have bought. People can read it and understand it, or not. It makes sense what you asked. Hopefully somebody will talk to Denny and everything will be okay in the end.

I understand what your intention was, Ajk, and, honestly, I think Denny does, too, but it's less what was said, and more the idea of it being said. Like you stated earlier, there's been a lot of criticisms and critiques over the years, and, eventually, it can become grating, even if what was said wasn't intended to be offensive. Again, though, as I said: compromises. You talk about "smoother" pre-orders, and I think the pre-orders are fine, for the most part. If Denny could have the final sunglasses ready for the prototype, I'm sure he'd take pictures with them, but this stuff is all running on a schedule. Masterworks is unique in that they aren't really your traditional company, but they aren't really customizers, either, and, with that in mind, it presents its own set of unique challenges.

With the company aspect, they have to juggle multiple releases at once, without the luxury of being able to have someone else take care of the mass production process, while, like customizers, this one team takes care of every figure, from prototype to final product. That means that the same people painting Harry were painting "the one who knocks" from your list. My point is that MW is kind of a tightly wound machine, and you have to ask yourself whether or not it's worth it to hold everything up and change it in the name of a pair of sunglasses.

Well, all I can say is good for Denny. Even as someone that doesn't follow these threads religiously, Denny has stated on at least 3 or 4 occasions I can recall that he finds the constant nit-picking insulting (and mentioned at least once that it's not acceptable in Korea). Some of the comments that this headsculpt wasn't as good as Cowboy, for example, were just stupid. I wish we were getting a Ford sculpt for HT Han as good as this sculpt for Dirty Harry. Anyway, I think it's totally understandable on his part.

Maybe its a cultural thing, I guess you got to be careful when you are typing stuff & your not familiar with the particular set of customs that person has?.

Denny, I know you said you wont be checking this thread so Ill make sure to email you this, but I just wanted to post this publicly as well.


Your team is currently at an all time high when it comes to quality and skill. Your figures have just gotten better and better, due to the extreme talent, and dedication of your staff, but also due to your willingness to improve based on feedback. The trouble is, some folks have just taken for granted the fact that you do respond positive to such feedback, that they throw out less tactful and disrespectful comments from time to time, most of the time by accident. In AKJHunters case, I truly believe he is a top supporter of you guys and didnt mean any harm by his comments.

I know his were not the reason you've come to this conclusion, because I've seen some other absolutely ridiculous comments be made, and I honestly don't blame you at all for being fed up at this point. You work extremely hard, and your passion shows through in the result. I hope you realize though that you have many more loyal fans and customers than you do the few detractors and cynics that throw out an unhelpful insult every now and then.

My hope is first and foremost that you stay in the hobby in some capacity as long as your passion for it remains. Any current 1/6 company would be lucky to have you on board. But most ideally, I hope that you continue to build the name of your own company and staff, go for licenses, and continue to prove to the whole 1/6 world that you guys are second to none.

I am a proud owner of 20+ of your figures, and they will remain gems in my collection. I'll always support whatever avenue you choose to explore in this hobby my friend! You've given a lot to the collectors, and deserve to know that your company is appreciated for it!

I think there is more going on to this decision than meets the eye. Constructive criticism and nitpicking is generally not enough for an on-the-rise company to close its doors. There is undoubtedly more going on.

Well, they lost $20k on the Bastard of the North fig (IIRC) and he says himself that they are operating on slim margins or a loss, a lot of times, so no doubt he's sick of the 'constructive criticism' from a bunch of punters. There may be other stuff as well, but that'd certainly be enough for me to close shop. There's easier ways for Denny to make money than deal with all the licensing and forum BS, I'd wager.

Also factor in the Sherlock figure, where they were only allowed to sell 20, which probably didn't allow for much in the way of profit. And now the sales side has gone more underground to evade those who would file C&Ds, which no doubt also means fewer potential buyers knowing about it and having access.
