Re: IT'S OFFICIAL!!! [IMINIME + TREVOR GROVE!] A Memento to 'Remember Sammy Jankis'
Yeesh... Most of what Mike "cobbles together" is a result of something I did first, or my ideas were off something he did first. And I certainly can say anything that's close to top notch don't have a spot in our massive massive collections. And massive as it is they're mostly all favourites of ours we think long and hard about what we want to make or buy. Bodies is one of the things that we always almost get right, I'm an art director, illustrator, designer... So I have a trained eye and know my anatomy inside and out but I have to say Mike is just as good at sorting out bodies and gives me many ideas. Like for example, if iminime uses a world box body or something totally non appropriate but already existing for Die Hard it will totally taint a solid release because there's just no proper options, but Mike had the idea to mod the new more barrel chested and realistic arm sized tony stark body for Bruce and I'm glad he did because now I have one waiting for it.
But if cobbling together means accurately sourcing parts, and swapping parts on bodies for the correct proportions or making small but significant mods on clothing than I guess many of the things I do are cobbled together and damn proud of it. My collection is too huge and too much money has been put into it for anything less than stellar.
It's one of the things I respect about Denny, he strives for improvement in his work always, redoing sculpts completely... I like that mentality it's not about having something because it's good enough so therefore it's better than nothing, it's about doing it right. I too think it was a dangerous thing to make a figure when there's no body available to set it up for success but I guess this guy wears a suit so he can be covered up on something like maybe a modded Bruce Lee body with swapped out parts to get it right.
I personally am a big big advocate of do it right or don't do it at all. I just can't enjoy something that's "decent" when something amazing is next to it!
