Then I would say just let folks list the ones they would actually buy and count them up, but don't put the "top 5" constraint there. Doing so seems artificial, because some are willing to buy more, and some less, so it won't lead to an accurate measure of how many figures Iminime is actually likely to sell based on pre-prototype interest.

No, I think your system is telling us which are most popular. . .but I can only say that because you have the counts listed next to your weighted vote choices (though both are problematic because people are probably listing figures they would have no intention of actually buying due to their choice of 5 when it may well be less). But this is a toy forum, so no biggie.

I've thought a bit about this because there is a specific logic to voting that applies to different Parliamentary systems. The results can be affected by your rules, which should be informed by your goals. But this is a toy forum, so no biggie.

Believe me I see the logic to your argument... But i don't think it would effect the outcome much. Popularity would by and large be a pretty good indicator of any giving figure's likelihood of selling. So it doesnt really matter if 5 people would have voted shane and michonne only and then 1 or 2 people wouldve voted for 15 characters... ultimately it would produce the same result, give or take a few ranking spots for lesser characters (who are unlikely to sell anyway).

In a sense that's what the point system is trying to protect. By offering weighted votes we giving people the chance to effect the scores based on their love (i.e. willingness to purchase) a character's figure. That's why to me a straight vote is meaningless (much to buttmunch's ire)

I guess in retrospect... the best way to do this wouldve been for everyone to list all the figures they'd like to possibly see (all of them really) and then weigh their choices independently with a 1 thru 5 indication of how likely they would be to buy it should it get made....

But again I think this system would just end up producing the same top 3 or 4 results.

Very true. In reality I only see my collection consisting of Rick, Daryl, Glenn, and maybe the Governor.

If you're willing to do it multiple ways Wake then I think it satisfies most everyone anyway. And Denny can take or leave whatever suggestions he wants to. But you are right--in general, there is more than one way to skin a cat, and a popularity contest can be set up in a bunch of different ways with the same winners coming out on top. Clearly, Michonne and Shane are large and in charge so far.
