I understand Jnix's position on the limited run - it's nice to have something that might not be readily available to everyone. But I love shooting/posting these things and I hate being "that guy" that tells someone that it's sold out (hard to convey my NON-glee when posting that).
My only thought on this is that the inevitable recast will likely happen (it already happened to his Jason Borne) and he will not profit from his hard work from these at all. Yes, the recasts are b*ll***** and you shouldn't buy them (confession, I bought a HT Luke recast to see if I could repaint it and make it better, so...I guess, glasss houses. But the original sucks anyway, so... #justifed?). And, no, they won't be originals, and won't have Jnix's great paint or packaging. But they will be passable for a lot of people and they will sell.
I got into a heated "discussion" about the morality/ethicality/whatever of trying to recreate, via threads here, a limited edition figure that had been done by one of the top customizers. But that is a lot more involved than just recasting a sculpt; securing new clothes and accessories producers, etc., and you will never have an actual, original CK/Rainman/Velvet Morning. People who buy these recasts will never have a Jnix either, but you'd be harder pressed to tell them apart with a good paint job.
There may be some legal or other reasons, and - to be clear - I support Jnix's or anyone's decision to do what they want with thier art, but if it were me I'd want to get as much for my work as I can before someone starts stealing it to meet market demand.
Thoughts? Or should I just shut up?
