Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Iminime's will put the rest to shame, no doubt! :lecture

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

They hype of this game, rather the hype of owning collectibles of this game will wear off with time... so whoever manages to get all the stuff out before will be the 'winner' (excuse my lack of a better word - but Im sure you get what I mean :lol )

Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Hype? This game came out almost a year ago. That's an epic lifespan for a game. Most are forgotten in months. Having played it I can tell you that my fondness for it will rival Mario 64, resident Evil, mariokart 64, streetfighter 2 turbo, company of heroes, call of duty modern warfare and Starcraft 2 for me. It's the best PS3 game I ever played. Ankit, you argument would be the same as saying breaking Bads hype will go away. Things that are truly great endure unless it's Coldplay. Lol.

I'm guessing you mean whoever releases before the hype fades wins?

I'm pretty excited about tLoU figures. Of course it will depend on how well the figure turns out. If iMiniMe really gets the head sculpt right, it might be enough reason to buy, even if other parts of the figure was lacking something. I think the hype of owning a tLoU figure might last longer than you think for some of us.

I know you might want some other character to fill this iMiniMe slot, but don't pick on this release :lol

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

iminime will knock with out of the park. I just can't wait for all the accessories!!

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

All the Joel sculpts that are out I've liked in different ways and they all suffer one issue or another. I have to admit this Iminime sculpt is the closest to in game Joel but it still has some issues. Maybe painting the head will make a difference. Great work Denny!

The game is pretty new. Very new actually...
Nope most great games are not forgotten in months... their legacy sticks on for the some hugely impactful things they do to gaming.

And yes even Breaking Bad's hype will fade... just like Dexter's did (Dexter had the hype in its heydays that even BrBa nor TWD IMO has not been able to have till date, it was SUCH Hot Property - now ONLY very very hardcore fans own/have kept their figures - Yes I know Dexter sucked as a show later on but the figures were masterpieces on their own and still faced the chopping block for most). Its inevitability. Now as a fan you will vehemently disagree, but lets see - a couple of years from now Hiesenberg and Jesse Pinkman figures will be cropping up at this FS section and ebay.
I wouldnt bet my money on the enigma called a collector. His/her fandom doesnt always dictate he keeps what he values, and what he values changes every day... the collector bug is such that sacrifices have to be made. And these kind of figures go down the chopping block first.

Your fondness for it rivaling Mario and Streetfighter and the namesake is personally for you. Mario, Streetfighters will continue to be legends like they are (even say Doom or Wolfenstein 3D) simply because of the main revolution they bought to gaming. Gameplay.
That was their strength, not story, not environments... you never felt emotionally invested in Mario, Pac Man or Doom because you played it for the game. A great story for a game doesnt make it timeless. Ive been an avid gamer since my childhood from the arcade to Romero's Dangerous Dave and even now I play most new releases every month (2/3 atleast every month - thanks to torrents) and modern games have too much going on to even focus that core gameplay which made those legendary games the legends they are.
There are some games that are truly great... and some that are timeless. The game is great... but timeless its not.

And I was talking about the collectors in general. The slower you are the more exciting releases will come out from HT/EB/Medicom and lesser will be the availability of funds etc etc. So you know why I said the guys who get their stuff out faster will win in this hyped race. It has nothing to do with quality or anything - everything to do with novelty and priorities. Dont misunderstand me

Im not knocking on the release or anything as Lawrence seems to be insinuating - The basic opinion which I wanted to share after all the comparison that the sculpt invoked from others who are comparing it with the releases from other custom artists and which led to this long winded post was that 'I believe that the one who will make the most of this games current hype is the one who will be able to get all the things out as early as possible'

Timeless is a completely subjective term. Yes, something can be accepted by pop culture as 'timeless', but nothing is ever universally accepted as such. What makes a piece of entertainment timeless for me is the impact that it has on me on an emotional level. My collection primarily consists of characters from films that came out at least a decade ago. I am extremely fickle/critical nowadays, and it takes something truly special to crack my shell. I will say that the experience of playing TLOU rivaled any film or television show that I have watched in I don't even know how long. It might be because I have a daughter, or because of the immersive nature of video games, or both. All that matters is that the experience is one I will never forget, and the characters of Joel and Ellie are absolutely deserving of representation alongside all of my cinema and television favorites.

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

I never said anything about deserve, I only talked about legend/timeless video games since Wake brought it up comparing it to Mario and Streetfighter etc etc.

My main comment was about the success of collectibles for this line being based on their releases being earlu.... :dunno

I couldnt disagree with you more Ankit.

Games like the original Tomb Raider and Resident Evil 2 were so evocative to me on an emotional level that they will never fade for me. Both offered me an amazing glimpse into discovery that I hadnt felt again since... UNTIL the Last of Us.

And regarding Dexter... the first season was fanstastic. Seasons 2 and 3 were good. But past that the show lost significant quality. Lost was the most POPULAR show on television for many years, much more so than Dexter... in the end its how a show is REMEMBERED that defines it. Friends, Seinfeld, The Office, The Wire, Sopranos... nobody is going to forget those any time soon. Breaking Bad fits this paradigm. The 'hype' isn't hype. Its admiration and respect. And that is much longer lived.

Think of the Matrix movies... I look at the first one with a reverent fondness and remember being awed by how amazing it was... the subsequent two? They don't hold up.

Ahhh, well what stuck out to me was the implication that TLOU is a 'flavor of the month' that is likely to fade quickly. :lol

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

You dont get it, I mentioned hype for a reason. Every game/title/movie will have its extremely loyal core fanbase (eg what Dexter is to Mr. EcKo) but there will also be the periphery who will be in that hype... for whom it will wear off. Unfortunately for the collectibles to game franchises the proportion is larger. Satistically therefore the best business will be done by the releasers who will be able to tap into this majority market before it subsides completely and who are left are the minority in numbers but the actual hardcore fans

I hoped I am now being understood better.

For BrBa - great show, great now... maybe great for a long time. But itll be extremely pretentious to say it too doesnt/hasnt attracted the same hype etc etc. For example I wont compare BrBa fans to Dr. Who fans... Dr. Who is a fanbase which has been so long that hype doesnt exist for it in the larger proportions. BrBa is a very very young show in that respect and will hold up the hype for a longer time in the present.

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

I guess I just don't understand what you think it takes for a piece of entertainment to be adopted into the pantheon of classics nowadays. TLOU was named the game of an entire console generation (the longest yet), and BrBa...too much to go on about there. :lol

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

I dont know... probably time? Like 10 years from now. Its like you know - In my lifetime I am watching both messi and christiano Ronaldo play. They are the absolute best currently... but I have never seen Maradona or Pele or Cryuff etc the people my dad calls the some of the greatest ever.
So to call Messi and Christiano one of the greatest ever will probably take me some time or maybe even till when Im my dad's age and have seen a big part of the game's history to come to a conclusion like that. In todays world media attention is really something else so TLOU being named game of an entire console generation less than a year of its release means squat if it doesnt live to the same timeless invocation as say Doom or Pac Man, 15 years from now...

I think these days classic and timeless are words used too generously, I mean some people already consider Messi one of the greatest ever if not The greatest... Im a HUGE fan of him. But I dont think its right to make a call like that when a word like 'ever' is used in context. I hope you get what I mean.

Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Well TLOU has been called the best ps3 game ever. And it will be because ps4 just came out. That's pretty impressive. To be the best game to grace a console no?

And there's no doubt that Lebron James belongs in the pantheon of greatest of all time. I can unequivocally say that even 10 years into his career and even if he never played another game again.
