Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

I know what you mean about standing the test of time being the true mark of a classic, and it is too early for both TLOU and BrBa, however I believe wholeheartedly that both have the right stuff to earn the eventual honor.

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Well TLOU has been called the best ps3 game ever. And it will be because ps4 just came out. That's pretty impressive. To be the best game to grace a console no?

And there's no doubt that Lebron James belongs in the pantheon of greatest of all time. I can unequivocally say that even 10 years into his career and even if he never played another game again.
I think you mean PS3 Game of the year not ever... dont think there is any official category like that. Has it even sold the highest ever units on PS3?

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

It has the highest commutative review score among reputable game publications.

Actually a few outlets named it the 'game of the console generation' which is possible, considering it's at the end of its lifespan.

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Naughty dog are the main reason (of many) I'm going with a PS4 for this generation :lecture

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Friends, Seinfeld, The Office, The Wire, Sopranos... nobody is going to forget those any time soon. Breaking Bad fits this paradigm. The 'hype' isn't hype. Its admiration and respect. And that is much longer lived.
Did you really put Friends in that list? :lol

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Sam, are you serious? Friends is one of the most successful shows (comedy or not) of the last 25 years. It's still extremely funny.

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Sticking a lowest-common-denominator sitcom alongside the Sopranos and Breaking Bad? I don't know what else to say, except that a show being popular in its own time doesn't make something a classic that folks will continue to care about.

For the record, I do enjoy many crappy sitcoms from my childhood, and would be all over Alex P. Keaton from Family Ties, or Mr. Woodchuck and Dave Coulier from Full House. But I would not say those shows are classics that are going to hold up to the test of time. Others may disagree, and God bless them if they do.

Still not something concrete to call it the greatest PS3 game of all time - unless its something you want to unofficially believe, whats the highest selling PS3 game of all time? Shouldnt that be something to consider then too?

Isnt console generation something of a HUGE time span! Dont tell me the console generation started with the PS3?!! I mean consoles were pretty hot pretty long back... and the PS3 has had like 6/7 years only.

Why I say the hype is important is check the scores of anticipated blockbusters and the money they are grossing in the modern age on IMDB. There was a time when TDK was I think because of the scores being put in close to being ranked the 2nd greatest film of all time! Then the crazy money films like Avengers and all are making. (Consider the escalation of ticket prices etc etc) So what I mean is review scores and sales and early fan size of a film/tv series/game etc etc mean zilch to tag something as timeless/classic etc etc. The only true denominator is time... Time decides everything.

Greatest game ever or not, it is still an awesome story driven game. That is all that matters.
I will concede that... so lets have some original Deus Ex figures in 1/6

When I refer to 'console generation' I'm referring strictly to the lifespan of the PS3. The PS3 is one generation of console. Basically they are calling it the best PS3 game released. I believe this was primarily decided by majority voting online. Even if it's just 6/7 years, to be voted the best of anything within a certain media during a time-span that long is an accomplishment, imo!

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Just started playing an hour ago......intense!

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Im not knocking on the release or anything as Lawrence seems to be insinuating
It comes across that way to me. Thinking the hype of owning this collectible will fade quickly, kinda suggests to me (whether intended or not) that you think it's simply a time filler/waster figure. That's knocking it a bit I reckon.

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Will definitely pick these up :)

Really liking the sculpt so far, hope it's tweaked a bit like neo has shown.

Re: Iminime The Last of Us Joel and Ellie

Timeless is a completely subjective term. Yes, something can be accepted by pop culture as 'timeless', but nothing is ever universally accepted as such. What makes a piece of entertainment timeless for me is the impact that it has on me on an emotional level. My collection primarily consists of characters from films that came out at least a decade ago. I am extremely fickle/critical nowadays, and it takes something truly special to crack my shell. I will say that the experience of playing TLOU rivaled any film or television show that I have watched in I don't even know how long. It might be because I have a daughter, or because of the immersive nature of video games, or both. All that matters is that the experience is one I will never forget, and the characters of Joel and Ellie are absolutely deserving of representation alongside all of my cinema and television favorites.

Please never never never base a movies value on the IMDB rating system.

Time does decide everything. I think The Last of Us, personally, is the best experience I've had playing a PS3 game. A similar situation happened when I played God of War 2 for the PS2, at the time, they were the greatest graphics I had ever seen, engaging story, fun game. The last games of a systems "life cycle" are often then best. No I don't think the PS3 is dying or anything but fewer and fewer AAA blockbusters will be released for it with the new consoles launching.

In 20 years time, Breaking Bad will hold up, much like the Wire, it is such a complex show with well written thought out characters that, in my opinion, it will be loved for years.
