It's going to take more than 'refinement' to get that sculpt looking right. I don't want to bash, but if you were to put that picture up there, removed the thread title and any reference to the subject matter, and then asked people to "name that (looney) tune", I would be extremely surprised if anyone pegged it was supposed to be Anthony Perkins as Norman Bates in Psycho. Extremely surprised. I'm just not seeing it at all.

^agreed. Imo he should go back to the drawing board.

Lack of likeness is a problem for me. Based on previous comments to that effect, I wouldn't expect much of a change from this to the production version. But this isn't really surprising. Rainman's likenesses are hit or miss. A great piece of art, particularly mother (which is obviously his focus with this release anyway). And I wanted to really want this one, but will probably pass on it at this point.

I was trying to figure out where the issues lay with this. seems there a a few places, chin is a bit too wide and cleft too deep. Ears need to stick out more, but the main issue is the eyes. Pics below with Perkins eyes on RM sculpt and RM eyes on Perkins shot...

Well, for better or worse he may have seen it already. I replied to a FB post on One six scale news/reviews that was critical of it and Lee posted "thank you~" (not in a good way). Not to me but to the OP. :(

I'm a big fan of Psycho, but for me it rejected !! Similarity Perkins zero ... you save the mother's corpse.

Dang, Without getting Perkins right, it is going to be hard to get Mom

I've been pretty detached from the hobby the last few weeks, and just realized a couple days ago that this was bound to go live soon, so I logged-in in time to catch all the VIP stuff open. I've been looking forward to this but after going through the pics over and over I found it hard to pull the trigger. I thought like the last few releases, this would stick around for a few days and I'd have a little time to mull it over. Was surprised to see everything sold out today, especially with so little chatter in here.

A DX shook loose early afternoon and has been available all day. I've been resisting all day but finally gave in. Didn't pay yet and still really undecided if I'm going to keep it. Does anyone who has been keeping closer tabs on this know more about how much of a tweek the sculpt is getting? I think comatoast's PS manip shows it's mostly the eyes and brows that are throwing the sculpt off.

A couple other things held me back aside from the likeness. The unpainted arms & pegs and the pants don't seem to have that baggy, ill-fitting 50's style cut (hopefully those are easy enough fixes). Two more nits that I'd love to see addressed but are less likely (but really shouldn't be for a barebones figure of this price); for Norman's regular outfit his blazer would be a nice addition to spruce up the overall look. Also, it would've been cool if he had mothers shoes on to go with the dress instead of just putting it over his regular outfit.

The shoes are probably out of the question but maybe someone who has been in touch with Lee through this project can throw the blazer, pants fit and painting the arms/pegs past him?

I had similar thoughts about his jacket, sweater, or blanket would be nice. His non mother clothes and look seem like such a distant afterthought here given that, and the unpainted forearms.

I thought about the sweater too but I'm not sure how well it'll translate to 1/6 since it's so slim and goes over his white shirt. Painting the arms & pegs really is extremely necessary

I'd be surprised if he didn't paint the arms, considering how jarring the effect was in that one photo.

It's odd how much he jumped the gun here with offering this before tweaks were done to the sculpt, it's disconcerting and unattractive to me personally to buy something where I don't know what the sculpt is going to look like. :(

Aw, that's a bit harsh don't you think? Norman didn't turn out as well as some of his others, but Dracula proved he's going just as strong as ever in the talent department. Maybe his next choice of figure will wow you a bit more. :) But things definitely have changed as his market has grown. It was inevitable really, things like VVIP and hiring others to paint the accessories considering how his popularity has boomed.

I think it's fair. If this sculpt was put out by anyone else it would be being crucified.

The whole release feels rushed and once again relying on a sculpt tweak after you have to buy is not good. Just feels he has lost his flair.
