Re: The SHO-NUFF! Project - Custom 1/6 Art Figure {PROTOTYPE TEASER}
Ok LIMP WIMPS! The time is finally upon us! As you have seen in the last couple weeks I have been teasing shots of our favorite Shogun of Harlem! I want inform all aboard we are now in the final stretch! This will be a long post cause I have a lot of things to cover. As I said before I won't update till I have real news to share and on the eve of the Last Dragon 30th Anniversary show this weekend in NYC it is now that time.
Option 1- THE EYES!
As you have seen, Nathan has completed two Sho-Nuff Prototype heads. They consist of a straight eye pose and a more Julius Carry crazy eye pose. This is because I want to present options to your final pieces. Everyone will get a chance to go straight or crazy! Your choice!
Option 2-THE SKIN COLOR/ UPPER BODY PAINT
Many of you have noticed in Surfers pics that the upper body has been painted to match Sho's skin tone in the film. You know that Steve and I had chosen the EB Jordan body as the best match for the physique of Sho-Nuff. There was never an easy choice with this. But it best represented the look and of course as you have seen with the clothing on looks ****ing fantastic!
Now I will present you with two options that basically go hand in hand with your choice. You can have your body painted to match Surfers paint job on the headsculpt as seen in the prototype pictures. Or you can choose to opt out of body paint and have your Sho-Nuff head painted to a darker skin tone to match the Jordan body as is.
Now bear in mind that Nathan does not recommend this. He is a purist as am I and feels that the body paint is the way to go. Julius has a lighter skin tone than the body and painting him darker might just not look as good but like the saying goes.....to each his own! And that why I want to present these options to satisfy all involved.
Please note there is no prototype done in this paint style so the first one to do this will be the guinea pig, so to say. So if you pick this style and then you are not happy with it Nate will be happy to repaint it again for you, but at your own expense. You have been warned!
Now getting the body painted is not 100% flawless. Nathan tried many techniques over a weeks time with different paints and drying solutions for the rubber upper body. He has found a happy place with the paint and tone as shown. But as this piece of the body is on a rubber type material it remains to have a very light tacky feel and also has a little glisten to it in bright white lighting.
Now I have this figure in hand and let me tell you honestly that the tackiness is so minute the clothes don't even stick to it. It's that faint but I want to be 100% honest with everyone and let you know it is there. It's truly its nothing to worry about and not a game changer. Second, the glisten actually adds to the piece and looks like Sho has a lil sweat going on. Again, this is only in bright white light or with flash that it looks shiny. Under normal lighting it just looks like a perfectly painted figure. Which it is! :wink1:
I will provide pictures below to show everything so please have no worries.
Now is the time where I have to break a little bad news. The projected price of the figure has gone up. Now this was never my intention but pricing on certain aspects of this figure could never be quoted till the work was complete. So I have to let you know there will be two prices on this full figure.
Full Sho-Nuff with Body Paint- $1100
Full Sho-Nuff with Lighter or Darker Skin Tone and Unpainted Body -$1050
The good news with this is that since we have been working towards this project in segments everyone has a great jump on the last payment!
Again I apologize for the slight increase but trust every penny has gone into this project. As you have seen with Nathans work the Paint was the easy part cause he's just that good. But the hair was a whole different story. Each headsculpt is going to the Eakins Soul Glo Salon and is painstakingly put together over a couple days time for each. Very time consuming but oh so worth it. Nathan nailed every strand and the actual texture of Julius hair! Don't get me started on the top knot. FLAWLESS!!! This figure has so much presence in hand its scary!!!
Now you might moan and groan a bit about this but I'm telling you it could not be helped. We are getting what was quoted as Yunsil's most difficult outfit she has ever made in 1/6 and one of her most favorite works as well as Nathans. He is extra proud of the job he did and I commend him for sticking it out when he was having doubts about hairing this beast during the process. If you're reading this, I love you Nate! :hi5: Let alone the custom box with custom decals, stands, foam, feet, extra hands and of course those damn Converse that had to be unlaced, colored, relaced and weathered! I'm also including some extra hands in everyone's box as the Jordan bodies only came with fists. I have put my heart and soul into this project and I hope you can appreciate that my fellow freaks.
Now I also know that this project has taken a long time to come together but the end product is just superb. Now I want to get to one part of the project that is holding us back a bit.
I don't know if you've been following our friend Corrose (Chris) thread. He and his family have been going through a lot of heartache over an illness with his newborn child. So his time to dedicate to the project has been very little. He has the actual glasses from the film in hand at home and has already started the 3-D print. There are kinks that need to be ironed out and then he can finish them up and send them to Nate for that last polish. Now I just don't know when that will be exactly. He was optimistic a couple weeks ago that he could start but more complications arose and it had to be put on hold again. Please don't fret. THESE ARE HAPPENING!
Now I want to get these figures to you guys as soon as humanly possible. And the worst case scenario will be that I will have to ship these without the glasses, stand decals and certificates. These items would be mailed to you as soon as completed at a later date. If you can wait for the whole package then that's fine as well. I will ship it all together but if you want the Shogun in your mitts earlier I'm giving you that option.
A little over a year ago I promised you guys a champion piece. I feel we delivered just that! Now as you know me, this is not my first figure project with another artist at the helm but my first as a director working with multiple artists. Not an easy task at all but I am so grateful to have the support of the fantastic artists involved. All kings of their respected crafts and of course, my freak family who are making this happen with me. I couldn't have done this without you guys.
Now as far as the project is going this is how we are gonna tackle getting this bad boy out to you. First to pay the full amount is the first to get worked on and of course the first to ship if you want your piece shipped ahead of the sunglasses.
So I will pm each person on the list letting them know their pending balance. I will also include a list that will need to be filled out. I need to know the choices of your eyes, body and skin tone paints as well as if you want to ship early or wait for Corrose to come through. I ask that you fill in the slots. And let me know when you can finish your balance. MG will have everyone casts in Nathans hands this week coming so the first to pay is the first to paint. I also ask everyone to please get back to me fast as possible cause I will have to ship bodies to Nathan to be painted. I would like to do this in one shot.
Once I get confirmation from each freak I will update the thread with your preferences and pending payment status as I have been doing.
I wanted to let you guys know I am also attending The Last Dragon 30th Anniversary show this weekend in NYC. I will be bring the Sho-Nuff protoype to show to Taimak/Bruce Leroy himself as well as more of the cast and crew. This is gonna be a legendary event and I only wish Julius was still with us to appreciate this piece of art! I will post pics as soon as humanly possible! I know they will love it!
I am also including a little gift in everyones box as a thank you for enduring this long process. I hope you will like it!
My fellow freaks I present, THE SHOGUN OF HARLEM SHO-NUFF in 1/6 SCALE!!!!
Sorry for the lack of poses. I don't know if you follow me on FB or Instagram but my daughter was just born this past week and I have not had a lot of time to devote to the hobby atm. But trust, the Sho-Business is main priority and is in good hands! :wink1:
And as always this figure looks 100x better in hand. No pic has done it 100% justice. Real talk!!!!
