Re: Update: Custom 1/6 'TDK Monitoring Desk' - Only 10 pcs.

Cool...this is the last TDK item I plan on purchasing unless I find a cammo tumbler for a good deal. Looking forward to the updates.

Thanks! After such a long time I'm just happy to see I can finally finish the project. In a positive way because I know this will be a grail piece for some who have been waiting beyond all the delays on my end.

anything fan?? exactly how close are you? 2 years in....not once did you ever send me a pm updating me or anything................

Re: Update: Custom 1/6 'TDK Monitoring Desk' - Only 10 pcs.

Hey man, had posted the latest development but I think you're right, should have sent them out as pm as well.

Current status in a short overview:

- Construction and assembly concept of desk, rack, monitor arms, hight adjustable chair completed.

- Movie accurate display content of all 8 monitors completed.

- All 3d models (including movie accurate keyboards, mouse and speaker, monitor cases and arms, detail parts for the chair) completed.

- Wiring of custom lighting modules for the monitors completed.

- Laser cut aluminum monitor racks completed.

- Design of CNC milled and turned aluminum parts (13 on each), so will be 130 parts completed.

Currently still waiting for all cnc parts to be delivered as posted in December but I keep getting delay messages, so I'm in the same boat. Was Looking for somebody here at the board as well but there was no response. Need the parts to keep working but atm can't simply contract another facility as I already had to pay 50% for the parts in advance.

After I got the cnc parts the next steps will be:

- Mounting the cnc parts for the rack, desk and chair.

- Painting and weathering.

- Mounting the monitors with the wired lighting elements to the racks.

While the Bat-Bunkers were challenging, especially space wise, this project is extremely challenging construction wise. The concept was a very big part of the work with all the movable parts and the monitors to be flat but still evenly lighted. Since I know this is all solved I know I will finish it and all I can ask for is some more patience to bring it to the best result I know I can deliver for you.

I know it's been a while but if you look at the list above and scroll through the pics in the thread you can see I haven't been lazy in my free time but I know I totally underestimated the time.

Re: [Fan Customs] 1/6 TDK 'The Bat-Computer' - Ltd. run of 10

Small update: The commissioned CNC parts take much longer than announced. A typical problem of custom parts is that some companies you commissions to get parts from don't put you on your priority list with such small numbers and not many orders per year. At least that's the feeling I have as I know they deliver great quality but usually in larger numbers. Since I had minor change requests on the parts it got delayed a lot as they had other bigger commissions that came first on their schedule.

I'm calculating with 2 weeks from now so I'm working on the weathering of the 1/6 desk plates in the meantime.

There are currently only 2 spots open so if you want to jump on the list, the time is now as I'm sure once first pics of the final thing pop up they will be gone in a heartbeat  and there will be no 2nd run.

Thanks for the update.

Anytime! You're all incredibly patient, I can already say that the final results benefit a lot from that. Within the next weeks you will all get to see why this project took so long.

I can imagine. Prototyping and small production is hard for "Makers". I can't imagine what you are facing going to these small scale manufacturers and asking for "this" in 1/6 scale....oh and by the way, I only need like 10 of em.

They need to make a little money off the project and depending on who you're dealing with, they are mostly doing it as a favor because they aren't making jack sheit off the project. A couple hundred bucks when they usually do projects that net several thousand. YOU KNOW they do your stuff last and when they have time.

Oh man, another month and I'm still behind my schedule. :gah: BUT: In the meantime a cool guy sent me some more really good reference pictures so I can implement some more details by that.

Once again many thanks for all your patience! :duff
