Just got back from a trip and great to see a MOLD ready to go here on this project (even if it needs to be redone)! Awesome to think a stunt ANH stormie be a reality in a month or so. Can't wait.:clap

EDIT: Haha - just noticed Solo_bones is based on Oahu - I was in Honolulu! Synchronicity!:hi5:

Seriously, you were here? Nice! Hope it was a good trip. Yep, were almost there. I'll be buttoning this up soon.

Yeah, it was awesome (did most of Oahu, and Kauai too)! You live in a pretty special place.

(though weirdly, there was a guy killed with a machine gun two blocks from my hotel in Waikiki (Kuhio) - I was there only about 45 mins after it happened...:horror but everyone said that kind of thing is very rare in Hawaii)

But yeah, getting super excited for this project!

I noticed you have clean clay and silicone along with the casting resin... Will you be taking a crack at laying up the mold yourself?
Ps. I have a Silpak location 10 minutes from my house, I get al my mold making supplies there.
Best of luck and looking forward to supporting!

Cheers,
Ahab

good luck will. cant wait to see the finished product. have to get a few to replace those ugly ssc buckets.

Hey Ed, Yeah...I am going to have to wait a week or two, i'm going camping this weekend and then to D.C. the next. My guys I want to work with on the first mold are only available on the weekends. So it will be a few weeks.

Thank you! That's pretty sweet. I'll bet you get some good deals on that. I will be working with some guys who have more experience doing mold making, but I do want to try a few on my own after that. I'll be making variant helmets, such as sandtrooper helmets.

Progress.

Sit tight, we’re over the hump. Tomorrow I have to cut them out and see how the casting works. I’m worried about the seam. Also, the last guy scratched the helmet cutting it out of the first mold, but I’m sure it can be buffed out or disappear under a coat of paint.

Anyway, we’re almost there.

You could always make a 2 part mold and make the join line where the dome starts , if you look at sideshow helmets this is where the made the dome and lower helmet join.
Just a thought

First cast to pull the rubber primer off the silicone. We are in business. A bubbleless cast.

Thanks, bro. These came out really well. I made a few mistakes on a couple, but I learned a few things.

On the thinner casts it’s really easy to cut the eyes out so you can put lenses behind the mask for a realistic movie prop look.

Here’s a couple shots;

Let the order list begin!!! I am going to buy a digital scale today so I can make them at home.
