Re: Death Dealer 1/6 CLOSED

looks good so far spyder............:yess:

Looks great so far... just the gunmetal alone on him looks good.

j...........you should approach this armor like you did your IG-88.......that turned out great.

i started sanding mine last night. i would suggest to everyone to sand the back sides of parts that have a smooth surface so if it's a part that needs a strap glued to it that it will adhere better.
and i was marveling at how shock got the chest piece so thin but sturdy & detailed all at the same time..............:thud:

Thanks mate, the molds for this one are a bit tricky (labour intensive as well), but if any pieces break let me know & I'll pop some spares in the post....

Just a quick update on the helmet. I'm just about done with it but wanted to show a side by side with my other DD helmet. I'm really liking this medium over my other kit. It's a little easier to work with. I used a black undercoat, Tamiya gunmetal spray, Tamiya chrome dry brush, and then a little brass for the raised areas. I used mostly acrylics. Same with the horns with some powder pastels. The red eyes are just cut up folder tabs glued inside the helmet and then oversprayed with Dulcote. I had to dremel some inserts for the horns do they would fit correctly.
I'll finish the helmet tomorrow and then work on the weapons this weekend. It's been fun so far!!!

Re: Death Dealer 1/6 CLOSED

Well, with all the kits sent & my PS3 on the blink, I've gotten stuck back into DD, today I took a dremel to the sword hilt & gave it a bit more details more of a beak, eyes & started on a leather scabbard hung by a chain plus used some leather to attach the vambrace & fur is know permanently attched to the shin armour, also attached the great belt to the chest plate. know to make attachments for the pauldrons thigh plates and final paint apps, plus I'm going to replace the resin axe handle with either wood or metal tubing, Sypder if you want the horns more symetrical you could heat one up and position, though horns don't grow identical I suppose

Yeah I kind of like how they are different. In the paintings/comics they are the same but in real life they are rarely identical. I reshaped the axe head a bit with my dremel tool to match the painting a little closer and I finished the handle. Since the pic was taken I have changed the pommel/butt to all metal parts and added the battle cracks to the edge. I'll gun blue it tomorrow and sand it a little more, glue it all together and post another pic. I ended up buying some square bass wood for the handle and just rounded it out with the dremel. I soaked the wood in water for an hour then bent it and held it in place while I blow dried it. Anyway, let's see some WIP from everyone else!!!View attachment 51559

Re: Death Dealer 1/6 CLOSED

bad ass handle on the axe spyder............that's exactly what i was going to do with mine too.........:yess:

oh and shock...........:thud:
dude that is as badass a figure as i have seen on this board........:lecture

been working on the chain mail suit for DD. need to clean up a few bits and pieces that look uneven & also need to decide how far i want it to hang so it integrates with the leg armor.

[Thanks barryo! I'm looking forward to seeing your chain mail!!
Shock your DD looks really intimidating! It's really coming together nicely!
Here's a quick update of the redone axe butt and I just finished the shield. I used the boiling water thing to heat the shield up and then bend in inwards a bit. I painted it the same way that Shock did and then I added some powder pastels(burnt sienna and gray) to various places on it. I wish there was a semi-gloss sealant. Anyone know of one? I only have flat Dulcote and gloss Dulcote and I've never seen a semi-gloss. This armor would look alot better if it had a slight sheen to it.

Shock I've been stewing over whether or not to use that Dragon Timeline mail on this figure. I didn't get a KP body but I did pick up another TT Advanced and a TTm-19 muscular body. That mail BARELY fits the advanced so it won't fit the KP. I'm thinking about the muscular body so the arms can be seen. If I go that route I'm gonna sew a jerkin/shirt/skirt for him and then just due the fabric. I dunno yet for sure. But your figure looks good as us with the fur and all. I've looked averywhere and can't find any that's thin enough to use for my DD :(

Re: Death Dealer 1/6 CLOSED

That is INSANE work on that Axe, which dremel tool did you use to shape the top edge? can't believe I missed that curve and that is some crazy goo painting. I like to eventually find some chain to suit ans swap the one I have onto a Conan custom as it seems to suit the look for that movie. If you looking for fur mine is literally a cushion I found selling cheap (still have the other side if your interested)
But mate you've got to go threw your painting in detail esp for the Axe

Re: Death Dealer 1/6 CLOSED

Got my set in today... a bit behind now but I hope to start cracking away on him soon. Probably at least do some sanding today and then take it from there.

Thanks again for the awesome kit :duff

Shock I might take you up on the fur! I did quite a bit of work on mine tonight because I don't know when I'm gonna get to work on it again. As far as te paint, I used a base coat of flat black spray enamel, then spray tamiya gun metal. After that I dry brushed it with chrome acrylic, then just used powder pastels. Get some earthy chalk artist pastels, rub a little pile with some sandpaper and then just dab/brush the color where you want it. I trimmed that blade with a couple of stone dremel bits. Then i used some gun blue. The handle was stained, and then i used pastels again. Here's a little mock up of how he should eventually look, minis the upcoming Leather work. The mail skirt is from the art figures Aragon. Picked it up eBay for about 6 dollars shipped.

Forgot to mention I trimmed about half of the chest armor away in order to use the belt buckle thing. I also too your advice and heated all the parts up in hot water to fit them better.

Re: Death Dealer 1/6 CLOSED

wow.... thats looking great, sorry to the guys I haven't given itrader ratings too, seems to be giving me some trouble at the moment, think I might look into using that screaming head that came with the KP, I'll put that faux fur in the Mail Spyder

Re: Death Dealer 1/6 CLOSED

damn thats looking awesome spyder............love the overall dark coloring...............:clap

hope to really tear into mine this weekend.

Re: Death Dealer 1/6 CLOSED

I got started on smoothing out the edges last night, but the dremmel decided to die with 1/3 of the pieces left :lol

Hoping tonight I can get the rest prepped and maybe do a basecoat so I can hit the painting hard over the next couple of days.

Quick question; what do you guy recommend for leather straps? I've never made any from scratch and whenever I find thin leather in a package it's more of a thick cord than a nice thin material. Any suggestions would be appreciated :duff

i found a roll of thin flat leather strips at A.C. Moore that looks like it will work perfect, along with some small rings that will be used for buckles. not at home right now J, but i'll see if i can get you a mfg & size on the package when i get home later.
