Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Tailoring

So it's time to talk pricing. As I mentioned on a previous page I was shooting for a three to four hundred dollar range. Sadly, clothing the figure is eating up 47% of the budget. That's even before the cost of the body. I ran the numbers many times trying to achieve a fair deal for everyone involved and even put some items at cost for you guys. However, I can't seem to get the standard version of the figure lower than five hundred. A deluxe version with base and art box would be a hundred more. That's better than the eight to twelve hundred I see for some customs. With this price everyone will get a full clothing set and each head haired.

If you were involved in my Slimer project you know that I have no issue with taking payments in two to four installments. I want to accommodate everyone that I can. Within the next couple of weeks examples of the cast pieces and tailoring will update the thread. During that time we'll have to get serious about the project as deposits will be needed to move things forward.

I've updated the front page to reflect all this and hope we can see this figure come to life soon.

Edit: 47% of the new budget. Around 65% of the previous. Clothing the figure isn't cheap.

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Tailoring & Price

So, I guess I'll make a few more updates before tailoring and then see where this project stands. Below is the result of replicating the bandana material. I spent some time recreating the colors and line thicknesses before having it printed.

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

Not saying it's not worth it but I think the new price tag might be pricing out quite a few people who were initially on board for this project. Have you considered just a head Sculpt option or Sculpt and accessories? Then people can try find there own clothing and body etc to help make this available to the people that really want your Sculpt/this character in there collection but can't drop the big money.

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

This is a great price for a full custom figure set, especially with all the accessories it comes with. I can understand some wanting just the sculpt either due to budget or just the sake of liking to build there own. That being said I'm still in for the full figure

I'm not particularly happy with the price myself. That's the reason for the explanation above. It's also why I spent nearly three months trying to work around tailoring the figure. You simply can't find accurate suspenders, raider shirt, and bandana. Accurate shoes are extremely hard to find and standard sixth scale pants won't fit the body. I did find a coat and superman shirt that looked alright but were no cheaper. I've definitely been trying to avoid a higher price tag. I won't say a painted head and accessory set is out of the question but that's not the focus at the moment.

Thank you for that. There's so much more work that goes into a full figure than people realize. Essentially, I'm only charging for the casts and paintwork on my half. That doesn't include the massive amount of man hours put into the sculpts, research, and development. Still, there's a chance I can squeeze the price just a little more. We'll see how things goes.

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

I'm not in on this but that's ONLY because I've halted nearly all collecting to fund my own limited run custom figure projects. Same with your Slimer. It's a sacrifice I've had to make.

The standard figure price and full figure pricing seems very fair and in line what the other customizers are doing so while some interested people may drop out, so be it. If anyone really wants and needs this on their shelf they will make it happen financially. This is really quality work.

The final product is seen, you can post as many progress pics as you want, but trying to describe the work involved from getting from A to Z is a difficult task.

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

I appreciate the comment TMT. I've currently hit the point where customs come first and the collection comes second. Ultimately, I don't choose a project to make a ton of money. I choose it because it's something I'd want myself. So I end up putting some extra effort into a figure and concern into the pricing. Like I said above I may be able to lower the price ever so slightly but a few things factor in. We'll have to see.

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

So, how would those concerned with price feel about a kit version? It would include everything in the standard version except the body and drop fifty off the price. You could always pick it up later.

Think it's the clothing run that's causing issues with finances. I really think 2 options should be available... option 1 everything pictured and mentioned with a cherry on top for those that want and can afford it, option 2 Sculpt and (some) accessories package so the people that really want your Sculpt can attempt to put the remainder together at leisure/go for a different look. That way both options are covered and hopefully everyone will be happy. I just want life back in this thread and to see people pumped and talking about this again.

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

There was a pretty hefty push towards a full figure at the start of the thread. Everyone seemed interested in a clothing run. So that became my aim. For those collecting customs the price is no surprise and is even with or just under the value of most. I'm pretty sure the price hasn't affected peoples involvement in the thread.

What I have noticed in this and the Slimer thread is people rushing to be added to an interest list but rarely comment once they have. Essentially you and Grimseed have carried the thread for the past two months and that was before pricing. That interest list fall off hurts in the end and while nearly twenty signed up for Slimer only six ever came through. Sadly, I can't risk that with this project.

Anywho, I don't really have a problem with selling a kit that includes a finished head and accessory set. I'll make the final call on that depending upon the interest. For now:

Sloth ready for molding . . .

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

Just to confirm, still in for full figure given price. Pretty much in line with what I was expecting. Thanks

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

I'm still down for the figure I was originally listed for but it would make things a whole lot easier to budget if maybe you called for payments instead of the full total at once. Still hoping this gets made because everything is looking great so far.

Thank you for that.

In the post at the top of the page I note that I'm more than willing to do payments for members. :wink1: I'll continue to look at the price as well. I may be able to drop a little more off but likely only about twenty bucks.

I'm with him on the payments- it'd make this a whole lot easier on some of us, in my opinion.

Usually I don't comment very often on any of the runs that I'm a part of, one- to avoid drama and two- I do leave comments when needed, only related to the progress of the project itself. Anyway...right now I think everything is looking good so far. I won't be fully committed to this until I see a prototype first. Hope you understand that. Thanks!

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

Understandable. Hopefully you havent seen the replies here as drama. I want an open and honest process with my projects. So I welcome constructive criticism and try to put it to use when possible. I will in fact take payments. I'll even add that to my original post so everyone can see it. I'm glad you guys are speaking up because it was starting to feel ify for a bit.

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

Price is what I expected too, RiggsMcClane. Even at half price it would attract negative comments from a small minority. It's great you take all criticism so well though.

I'm hopefully going to be in, but I'll be honest and say it really depends on my funds at the time. It's a project I hope doesn't come out for a little while longer - that is me being very selfish :)

Great job so far and stoked to see the final product.

:wave

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

I appreciate the support. We might have a prototype to reveal within two months. The bandana and the incoming suspender material have held things up a bit. The head has made it out of the mold and a sample cast and paint-up are on the way. Even then there will be a lot to do. So there should be plenty of time after the proto to make payments etc.

And as always . . . Sloth Loves Chunk. :wink1:

Re: Hey You Guuuuuys! - Update - Bandana Material

Great to see people speaking up and life in this thread again. You have absolutely the right mentality, it's great that your open to ideas and feedback and I think the Sculpt option you said a few posts ago sounds great and a brilliant alternative. Means some people might pick up both and create 2 versions.... can. Ever have too much sloth ;)
