Spoke with Trevor at length last night. He LOVES this movie as is extremely excited. So excited he is likely going to sculpt a Teddy too. Its on us to convince Denny to make it a release!

I have a tough time imagining Teddy selling well. Leonard seems a tough enough sell as-is considering the niche fan base for this movie.

I agree, but I remember when Trev sculpted 3 different Walter Whites and I thought "Why the hell would anyone want a Walter White"?? Now two years later, Mezco is making official merch and people are complaining that Mezco is wasting the license by not making Fring and Jesse and Mike and Skyler. . .

and I'm still scratching my head as to why people want a Walter White toy.

Basically, what I'm saying is, Trevor Grove could sculpt a piece of **** and people would fall over themselves to buy it. And Q would still recast it and sell it on eBay.

Wouldn't you have said the same about Patrick Bateman? Older movie. More obscure character. Less well known director? Yet that's been Denny's best seller to date with 130 unit (about 60 the more expensive DX). By contrast Denny's normal runs on regularly priced sets is 70.

I''ve come to realize that the quality of the release dictates the sales more than the subject matter. People will make room in their collection for a well made figure despite not having 100% affinity for the source material. Even more so in Teddy's case because he will be a companion piece. Inversely, some are doubting whether they want to purchase the Fight Club figures Denny is offering just because they aren't perfect representations of the character, despite the RABID cult fan base of the movie. We need to change our thinking regarding this and I think Denny already has. It is the popularity of the release that sells necessarily... its the quality of the release. Of course a marriage of both equals the most success.

Having said all this, Lenny will NOT be a tough sell once the figure is complete. It will preform on the level with Bateman. If Teddy (especially with a diminished accessories set--as he has little in the movie) sells 50% it would be a normal run. I think with Trevor sculpting people will come out of the woodwork. Might even cause some who missed on Lenny to go hunting for extras.

If I've learned anything in my 15 years working as an editor/producer/director/writer is that the best work comes from passion and you don't interupt inspiration. Because that's what yields the best results.

Re: IT'S OFFICIAL!!! [IMINIME + TREVOR GROVE!] A Memento to 'Remember Sammy Jankis'

The Walter White success was due in part to sculptor, but moreso to the character, that is on an extremely popular, current TV show. It doesn't surprise me that Mezco and NECA are capitalizing on it. Memento is over 10 years old, and was never a huge blockbuster (I was shocked that it even played at my local theater at the time). Further, it doesn't have anywhere near the cult following of American Psycho from what I can tell. I cannot imagine 100 people would shell out $400+ for a Leonard figure, even if it is an extremely high quality figure. Of course, a small to moderate sized group will order anything from Trevor. And if the sculpt is a huge miss, then of course sales are going to hurt, even if it's an iconic character. But providing a fantastic sculpt of a pretty mundane looking secondary character from a movie with a pretty niche following. . .if Denny thinks that is a good business model then I wish him all the luck in the world with it. I just don't see it, though.

I'm not saying Trevor should or shouldn't do this or that. He should do whatever he wants to do of course. But should Iminime work on a full figure of Teddy? I don't think so.

Re: IT'S OFFICIAL!!! [IMINIME + TREVOR GROVE!] A Memento to 'Remember Sammy Jankis'

Dont compare American Psycho to Memento... specially with the resurgence of Christian Bale as Batman anything he is involved in has a lot more pump, so sadly as you think, he is NOT an obscure character - More than Patrick Bateman, he is Christian Bale. A Directors popularity has NOTHING to do with a characters figure's popularity. Nolan's Batman is still Nolan's BATMAN. If Michael Bay did Batman it would sell like hot cakes. Plus A lot of people bought that $120 sculpt to bash as Wayne... How many can name Guy Pearce? Can guarantee you not many.

I do enough research before floating a project to Denny. Every character I have got greenlit has a lot of thought of market consensus behind it. From Ra's Al Ghul, to Bateman. There are lots of characters id love them to do to fill my wants/shelf but I never proposed them as I knew it wouldnt sell well.

American Psycho has a huge cult following. A company like NECA wouldnt be making a figure of it AND THEN topping it with a 12/18inch release.

I am a big Nolan fan, but as much as Memento is a great film. Anyone but the titular character is risky. Try taking a screen grab of Teddy and showing it to people as a survey. See how many can recognise him. People will call it oh that villain in the Matrix. Besides there are fans of films, we all know that. But how many are willing to drop $400? But hey in this business doesnt mean every release will sell well and perform exceedingly well. The Matrix ones didnt do as well as expected. Nothing is that predictable, but there are some general forces at work always.

But ofcourse go ahead, I always want Iminime to do well commercially...

Read between the lines fellas! Wake needs Teddy to be made for his next Diorama! :lol

Seriously though, Teddy is a real hard sell man. If your gonna make him might as well wait and sell them as a set ala Seven. I just don't see it working. But I'm interested to see how it plays out nonetheless!

Of American Psycho?

And

Memento? Lenny? Nope. And people are only likely to jump on that film now is because of the iMiniMe release. Just like the "Cowboy" release, when quite a few never really talked up GBU or westerns, now they are all over it due to figure.

Try to understand what I said form reading the whole paragraph, I meant a company like NECA wouldnt make American Psycho if they didnt know the demand was there...

Re: IT'S OFFICIAL!!! [IMINIME + TREVOR GROVE!] A Memento to 'Remember Sammy Jankis'

You know what's funny... I was having a conversation with Trevor about Sideshow and Hot Toys and the strange choices they make (i.e. Mime Joker, etc.) and Trevor told me that Indiana Jones--yes THE indiana jones--was NOT a big seller. That sideshow had stopped focusing the attention on the line (EVEN THOUGH THEY ALREADY BOUGHT A BEAUTIFUL SHORTROUND SCULPT FROM TREV) becuase it frankly was moving units. We don't know the real numbers here. All the above is just speculation because if asked, 100 people out of 100 people would say Indiana Jones is a big seller.
