That look? That's my favorite too! What about a duty blue uniform? I think i'll have Kara in flightsuit and Lee in duty blue.

@shadow : there will be no proto to show for the sculpts. Joy and Tom can't take risks to waste time sculpting and painting something if nobody buys in the end. I fully understand your position here but there's nothing i can do. I will order without a proto because i've seen their work and trust them.

It's standard courtesy on the board. No proto = no payment.

Joy and Tom Studios are industry professionals with 20 + years experience. Asking someone with their resume to sculpt something on spec is a joke. I have talked with them about doing some projects and the way things are set up here don't work for them. The fickle nature of collectors is they will get on an interest list but never pay, or something else comes along and their money goes there. I have been guilty of that myself. On a different note here is a not quite safe for work video of some of the new BSG characters sculpt and painted by Joy and Tom Studios for Robot Chicken. The way it was explained to me is these puppets are 1/9th scale (8 inches tall) so the heads are about half the size of a 1/6th scale figure. Because of the stop motion animation production schedule they only have about one day on each head to start and complete the sculpt. At a larger scale, and with more time to work I imagine they could provide very good sculpts for this project.

Well, that is the way things are done here. And I doubt that many of the artists here would appreciate you calling the standard method for this board is a joke.
Even the amazing Trevor Grove has had a miss or two, and what is a joke is expecting people to take a wildly expensive gamble on two sculptors that are basically unknown to all of us and have zero proven 1/6 track record.

You need to edit and apologise for those remarks. Joy and Tom Studios are well-respected industry professionals, best known for doing the heads on Robot Chicken. Their son has sold their heads on this Board for years as Snyder-man. They sell on eBay under the same name. They have done dozens of 1:6 heads. I've personally worked with them for five years and commissioned multiple heads. Joy is one of the few 1:6 artists to consistently do female heads well and there is no artist readily available on this Board whom I would trust more readily with a female head commission, even sight unseen.

Another member on here mentioned that Joy Snyder was one of the best kept secrets on this board. She has been doing 1/6th scale custom heads for nearly 20 years. Their prices for doing a commission sculpt run between $300 to $600. By comparison some sculptors wont start a sculpt until they have 20 people interested in paying $70 for an unpainted casting. That is $1400.

I wanted to add that I have purchased many heads from Snyder-man and just set up a commission. I wont disclose the price because I think I got a better deal for being a repeat customer. I didn't even bother trying to start an interest thread. I am paying a fair price for the two heads I wanted, and castings will be available in Snyder-man's sale thread once the project is done. I find it both funny and sad that people on this board seem to think they "have zero proven 1/6 track record" when their likenesses are consistently better that most custom sculpts offered here. And often for half the money of what other sculptors want for the same characters.

In that case, they should be more than familiar with how things are done here.

They are familiar with it, as Star Puffs mentioned they have been selling heads here for over 5 years. They are outside the box. I can point out several ways they operate differently than any other sculptor who offers their work here. Unless you find a sculptor who is really into BSG there is about zero chance of getting these made as most can't be bothered if they aren't going to make at least $1000 + on any head they offer.

Just wanted to chime in that I'm still in for the 3 characters sculpts and any outfit that gets done :) Also I agree about the preferred look for Kara: mine would be also one of the short hair cuts from the early seasons; besides looking better it will make things easier when going with sculpted hair.

Okay, so who's still in with joy and Tom, knowing that there will be no proto?
