Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking Orders!!

I have the utmost respect for Jnix as both an artist and a stand-up guy, and I am 100% keeping my order for this sculpt.

I just wanted to add a teeny tiny bit of constructive criticism, that's all. Jnix seems like the kind of guy who respects his customers and is open to their honest views on his work. Can't wait to receive my sculpt!:yess:

I hope Jnix doesn't get upset by that picture you posted. totally unfair.

By all means constructive criticism, but a werewolf comparison? I don't think that's respectful or fair. he does respect his customers, so respect him back.

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking Orders!!

We are all paying our hard earend money for the sculpt... we have every right to have our say/constructive critiscism... i actually thought it looked like that AWIL picture as soon as i saw it this morning... i am sure JNIX won't be offeneded... it may even make him chuckle...

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking Orders!!

I feel pretty bad for mentioning it to be honest. I know Jnix worked very hard on this and I think he would accept any comments that can help him in his work. I don't have the skills or know how to be able to do this level of sculpture so I do appreciate the talents of those who can. I think just a small tweak to the end of the nose /philtrum area will make a world ( or even a galaxy far far away ..
) difference. I hope you don't mind, I've done some quick removal on my phone with a couple of pics to illustrate what I mean.

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking Orders!!

I think the "wolf" comparison was a light-hearted comparison without any malice or disrespect intended.

Timemeddler has been banging on about his Han sculpt probably louder than anyone - and clearly that indicates he has the HIGHEST respect for Jnix and his amazing work/talent.

Likewise... but as you can clearly see below - just pointing out the obvious.

We all want this to be as perfect as Han...

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking Orders!!

I'm sure time meddler meant no harm. But posting a comparison with a wolf man is kinda semi borderline and I think most artists would be sad when their work is being compared like that.

:exactly: I agree. Even if no harm was meant, I also feel that was taking it a tad too far. Hopefully, he takes it with a pinch of salt as it was intended. But I'd rather see more constructive picture comparisons than turning it into a joke.

Either way, whether Jnix makes further changes or not, I think the sculpt is brilliant.

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking Orders!!

I am in no means being disrespectful towards Jnix, I have nothing but admiration and total respect for his talents and generosity. Anyone who infers otherwise will be sent to the spice mines of kessel.

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking Orders!!

I think the profile captures something I've never quite been able to put my finger on, since I first saw the shot where Luke looks up at the double sun. It really makes it the pre-accident Mark Hamill.

But setting my own reaction aside, I remind everyone that a small tweak to one angle changes every angle. Jinx is a traditional sculptor (as opposed to a zBrush sculptor), so changes mean the previous work is lost. I don't recall Jnix ever having made changes in response to requests, or indicating a willingness to do so. On the contrary, he's cautioned us all to be sure we like it before we pay.

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking Orders!!

As a graphic artist and Creative Director I will tell you that it can be a delicate situation when you offer constructive critisism to an artist. I would never look at one of my designers work and compare it to something obviously deregatory. I would usually point out what's working well and offer suggestions as to what could be improved.

Not that every artisit has a fragile ego that you have to dance around, but creatives in general put a lot of emotion into thier work.

Having said that, when I present work to a client, they don't necessarily have the same compunction and will sometimes pull no punches in telling you they feel something isn't working (or outright sucks!). In most of these cases - we are offering preliminary work and allowing the client to comment and adjust from there. In this situation, some people on the boards ask for input, others don't.

We are the clients here. However, Nowhere has Jnix asked for input and he may just be offering this as it stands. I offered what I thought was constructive input, but I've already ordered and have every intention of getting one, even if he doesn't adjust anything.

[JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking Orders!!

As is, I'm blown away. More so than from the initial pic. I was always happy with my HT sculpt, but like his Han, I can't live without this in my collection. Excellent work JNIX!

Re: [JNIX] 1/6 ANH Luke custom head sculpt - Taking Orders!!

I've already paid for mine and cannot wait.

Regardless, I believe I should be able to state my observations, no?

I'm a creative too, and have had people come up to my face and tell me they hate my work - work that I have spent years on. Alternatively, I've had people come up and hug me and tell me it has changed their lives.

The reality of being an artist (of any form) means once you put it out to the world, you're opening yourself to criticism. More so now, than ever before.

Such is life...

Looks like you moved the eye depth forward - that's what I think is making the profile look "long". I think the profile is right on - the eye is set too far back. I think you may have brought the bridge a little too far forward actually - I think the angle is right, it's the eye depth.

Constructive criticism isn't or wasn't the issue. It's non constructive/unfair comparison that was the point.

I think we will be ok. Take a look at the first photos of the Han sculpt. As good as it looked there was a couple of things that looked kinda weird but as soon as more pictures were taken at other angles and the paint came on it was another story.

Just a few degrees the "wrong way" on the angle of the sculpt and/or camera will do crazy stuff to the picture if it is taken up close.

:goodpost: Let's all calm down and wait until next week when the painted proto gets posted. I have my full trust in Jnix, I'm sure by next week these comments will be a distant memory.

I think I saw some of the initial Ford pics and wasn't blown away, which led to me ignoring that thread for a long time, until we saw final painted samples and people getting them in-hand. At which point, I was desperate to get one! So, that's definitely a possibility, though I think the sculpt does look a bit off from Hamill's likeness at the moment.
