Ray, your Vincent is simply awesome. You've really captured the menace there is his character. I love that movie and I think it's still a welcome surprise to see Cruise playing against type every time I see it. I was lucky enough to re-purchase my Yunsil suit having sold it a few years back. I've been planning to try and modify my Nathan Algren sculpt to a Vincent sculpt too as I unfortunately don't have the Bbkil one.

Thanks man! I would love to see that I was considering an Algren first actually because it had the beard but I sort of enjoy sculpting stubble so
I went this route.

I totally agree, that movie is Michael Mann when it’s style is at its best and awesome casting in a surprising way. It’s a super nuanced performance and character that plays off all of the things that are appealing about Tom and turns it on it’s head in a compelling way.

I wish Tom cruise would diversify his roles a bit more because as big a movie star he is and as insane as he is, he’s really a good actor. I love this character and I realized the BBkill was a bit dated so I was going to sell the figure but then I thought well why not make it up to snuff? If no one cares to make a new head let me take matters into my own hands.

Absolutely! Well your modified sculpt is incredible and now you have a figure that is unique and a worthy tribute to (what I think) is one of Michael Mann's best modern thrillers.

I wouldn't even know where to begin with sculpting stubble. Do you mind me asking how you do it? Did you create your own tool for the process?

Another interesting fact about Collateral: Cruise's weapon skills in the briefcase retrieval scene were so well executed that I have read they have been studied in tactical weapons training programmes. I'm surprised he hasn't diversified into more roles over the years though. I agree, despite his, er, eccentricities (for want of a better expression) he is a skilled actor who can surprise. The role of Vincent with his casual cruelty and intensity was a great example of that.

Crude, insane and still somehow likable. A tough feat to pull off!
for both the hairline blend and stubble I used procreate clay which is all I ever really use when sculpting anything and my weapon of choice is always very sophisticated ; a toothpick.

I do have a finer metal pick I use at times too but don’t think I needed to touch it for the facial hair. I just lay a thin layer of it over the face and texture it.

You have about an hour before it hardens so i do small areas of the face at a time

That transplanting of the Logan hair is enviable. I have always wanted to see if that sort of thing was feasible (always wanted a late 90's, 2000's Gibson but have yet to find a decent head) and you knocked it out of the park, Ray! Vincent is hands down my favorite performance by Cruise.

Thanks so much buddy I really appreciate that. That hair transplanting was tough, the whole front part is resculpted. the whole thing took forever but I am happy with the result.

Thanks man! That hair I didn’t think would be possible to pull off years ago so I never tried but other hair artists showing what could be done in recent years made me re evaluate. Hardest part is having the right piece of lamb Hyde and placing the right shapes in the exact right spot. Doing hair I’ve always found is a lot like sculpting

Hairing is incredibly difficult to get "just right", it seems. Hats off to those who really have the skills and patience to do it. I've always been hesitant to do it as the final product ends up looking off slightly.

I kind of agree actually. We have seen some pretty incredible short hair work recently on these billion Tony states or whatever and even though they blow my mind I find them all a bit weird looking

I’m not really opposed to sculpted hair for long hair characters so I think it’s kind of interesting hot toys is going towards this now for their female characters as they can’t get the level of real 1/6 hair work with their rooted synthetic doll hair . The thing is though, that this hair sculpt on Ripley was so damn bad I sort of didn’t have a choice but to try and do it and I was astounded that and a repaint could bring this head so much further along to look like her than I thought possible

Holy heck I have a lot of catching up to do here...

First, I was totally blown away by the hair transplant on Vincent. It is seamless. And that face looks incredible. The entire figure in fact, but particular kudos for that paint. Intense and powerful. Just like the character.

And then there's Mike. The detail on the head -- those freckles and age spots -- just make the sculpt come alive. I mean, that's a large empty canvas to work with, daunting to most, but you really managed to give it history and life. Usually my eyes go right to, well, the eyes... but in Mike's case it was all that freckling that caught my attention.

And finally Ripley, a real favorite of mine, and a figure that just screams the need for faux hair. And you managed to capture that tangled mess perfectly. One would think curly hair might be easy but, after purchasing one of those haired Ripley heads with the Gerry-curl hair that looks more like Flashdance than Ellen, I can see just how hard it is to get that "curly mess" looking realistic, natural and like Sigourney. It is no simple task to say the least. I especially like the fact the several curls around the forehead line up perfectly to the real picture of Ripley -- that's attention to detail. And the paintwork is very astute, bringing out that distinctive jawline. You don't realize how unfinished an HT sculpt looks until you see someone like Ray get ahold of it.

Wow, so many absolutely incredible customs in this thread! Don't think I could even pick a favorite.
