There is a website that has TONS of movies just screen-capped. Mr. Ecko posted it for The Dark Knight. PM him to see what website it was. It's bound to have Rocky.

I have sent a pm to all your guys on the fullset waitlist.

I still have two unpaid spots.

They have 24hrs to pay, if they have not paid by then, the spots go open to you. I will just do it on a first come first serve basis.

Send me a pm if your on the waitlist and your happy to pay tomorrow should the other two not come forward.

Thanks :duff

ohhhhhhh ignoring the numbered system on the waitlist controversial :horror haha ;)

Screen caps EVERY FRAME of the movie ? Why would they do that ?, haha, what's the purpose of doing it I mean ?.

I am just starting to make the base for the hat, just trying to make it fit the head, nothing solid yet.

I'm sure there are several different reasons why people would need to reference and research screengrabs; IDK what all of the purposes are, but having access to a full movie (no one posts EVERY frame, although that would be nice ;lol) is very handy when it comes to this hobby.

You don't need a full flick if you're just researching Rocky's feather, but you do if you're researching his full outfit, alternate outfits, different props, dioramas, etc. Rocky isn't the best example because it's one character but full movies come in very handy when researching multiple characters and props in movies more like Aliens, Matrix, Star Wars, etc.

I use Shadows of Reflection (maybe this is what ECKO uses too) and they have a ton of great stuff. They don't have Rocky though but the person that runs the site is adding Rocky, Training Day & GBU for me.

Awesome site. Make use of it gents!

Alright so I did some homework last night on the infamous feather and learned some interesting stuff; during filming/editing they really didn't give a s__t about keeping it consistent :lol. It's there one minute, gone the next.

For instance (something like this happens a few different times throughout the flick), you see the feather threaded thru the loop as he walks into the gym for the first time. By the time he gets into the locker room to see that he's evicted from the locker and put on "skid row", the feather is gone :lol. Then when he goes out to b__ch to Mick about it, the feather has reappeared but now it's standing upright instead of laying horizontally in the loop. :slap

So this is what I came up with (sorry for the crap pics but I couldn't wait for the grabs and just took pics of my TV).

The feather is usually threaded thru the loop. It's dark grey/black with a bit of dark yellow toward the bottom. (*you can see the little red tip poking out from the top; see below)

The detail that we see behind it is a brass pin/button as most of you already assumed.

We originally thought that the wind was fanning it out in certain shots but actually when it appears like this it's because the feather is stuck in the band and sitting more upright/vertically as opposed to when it's positioned in the loop and laying horizontally.

The reverse side of the feather has a red stripe and you can notice the tip of it in the first pic too (above)

Dang, thanks for the research man. What I am gonna do is make some with feathers, others without, and send them randomly...

Joking, haha.

I think I will go for the version of the first pic, it's there, but a little discreet also. I'll see how it goes with the "real" feather thing.

Thanks pops :)

Awesome grabs Pop think that pretty much shows it is indeed a hat pin. Get a much better look at the colouration of the feather and the styling on the brass pin also in thosr shots. I'm gonna go through the blu ray later see if I can get some high res shots as well the more the merrier.

Awesome work on this one so far! You should consider a First Blood Rambo sometime in the future Hint hint ;P

So the pin goes from one side to the other ?. I didn't know something like a hat pin existed, this is how a hat pin looks, correct ?

You have clearly never seen those rediculous hats women wear to race courses! They very much exist and there totally pointless haha. I'm by no means an expert on hat pins but that looks about right lol

Then I have a clear idea of how to "sculpt" it, or simulate the pin/needle at the end.

Because you see the feather in one scene, but a few seconds later it is not there, probably means they used more than one hat.

Here's a closer shot of the pin on the tweed hat.

It's exactly like this Johnny. The feather just goes right in the loop. It seems to be more of a button type thing than a long pin

It could be that or ton of other things; the scenes that the feather is gone could've been shot last and they lost te feather at that point, or they just forgot... who knows. They definitely goofed on the positioning though; sometimes it's in the loop, sometimes it's in the band :lol.

I am going to do the button stud, and add a hint of a needle at the other side.

List updated.

Only one spot left.

Will send out mails tomorrow.

Awesome :)

Thank goodness there is going to be a second run. I need this Rocky on my shelves. Can't wait to see the tweaks in the jacket and the sweatshirt.

The hat pin with the long needle was use by women only. It was to pin their hats to their long hair, which were usually up in a bun. Mens hat have stick pins that just stick into the band without a long needle.
Women sticking pin into her hat.
