Hello everyone. I am excited to announce “Black Magic: The Malcolm X Project.” This represents a collaborative effort between some of the best talent in the 1/6 scale field. This beautiful sculpt was created by the remarkable @sculpturejoa.

Also, I am pleased to announce that Toribox (Yunsil) is officially on board and will provide Malcolm’s clothing for this project.

Undoubtedly, Malcolm was one of the most powerful voices this world has ever seen. If you’re interested in this project, please comment below. This will be an extraordinary piece to add to any collection.

Sculpt by: SculptureJoa
Clothing by: Toribox (Yunsil)
Painting by: HongMoon Noh & Jacob Rahmier

Price: $1850 USD

For those of you who are unfamiliar with this man, I highly recommend reading his autobiography, “The Autobiography by Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley”. It is routinely cited as one of the best autobiographies of all time. You can also check out the classic, Spike Lee directed film, “Malcolm X”, that was based on the book. It’s currently on Netflix.

The disturbing circumstances surrounding his assassination are chronicled in the recently released, Netflix documentary series, “Who Killed Malcolm X?”.

As many of you know, putting a project of this magnitude together isn’t an easy or quick process. It takes a lot of time, effort and patience to assemble a creative team of artists that can work together to make your vision come to life. Having said that, I’m working diligently to get this piece of out to the world as quickly as possible.

I thought I’d start off by showing you guys a few items that will be a part of the Malcolm X project. Here is the beautiful prayer rug and Quran that will be part of the package...

Prayer rug dimensions: 7.4 in x 4.7 in (19 cm x 12 cm)

Quran dimensions: 1.7 in x 2.1 in (4.5 cm x 5.5 cm)

Sad thing is you won't find more than 10 people for this project. Not many are interested in diversity in this group

I’m hoping to change that ?? I know my work is cut out for me, but I think if they learn his story and see an extraordinary level of quality and creativeness, then they’ll get excited about this. It might be a slow burn, but there’s a lot of time to build this up.

There’s amazing beauty in exclusivity. I’m hoping to help restore the value in that. Because what good is a “custom” figure if it’s been done over a million times and it’s in everyone’s detolf already. There’s too many fascinating characters to pluck from history, movies and tv to continue down that path.

Let’s restore the feeling of excitement people used to get when they knew only a few folks have what they just purchased ??

“The honorable Elijah Muhammed teaches us that our own mind has to be changed. We have to change our mind about ourself. Well, so, he teaches us the importance of moral reformation...a knowledge of self” - Malcolm X

Here is the beautiful sketch card portrait of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad that’ll be a part of the Malcolm X project. Each individual who joins this historic run will be able to recreate the powerful “race problem” speech scene depicted in the classic, Spike Lee directed, “Malcolm X” film.

Portrait dimensions: 3.5 x 2.5 in (8.9 cm x 6.3 cm)

Interested but Malcolm didn’t wear a beard when he was in the Nation.
He started sporting the goatee after he left. Facial hair was/is prohibited. Clean shaven! It is the way!

You’re absolutely right, brother - members of the Nation don’t sport facial hair. Good observation. However, this project will incorporate elements of both periods of Malcolm’s life, after prison. That includes his time as the spokesman for the Nation, and after, when he officially became El-Hajj Malik El-Shabazz and embraced Sunni Islam.

So he will have multiple sculpts?

No, only one sculpt will be available. To me, it didn’t make sense to make another one just to remove a little hair around his mouth. However, he will have his signature NOI ring and come with a portrait of the honorable Elijah Muhammad ?

Ok. I’m still interested but admittedly less so. It’s accurate but not the historical time period I’d like to have.
I’ll wait to see how this comes out.

Malcolm was killed less than a year after leaving the Nation so there isn’t nearly as much to extract from that period in his life. Minus the facial hair, I think you’re going to be really excited about this project.

I think that’s the main reason you should offer it without the beard.

While I understand where you’re coming from, I felt like I would be doing brother Malcolm’s legacy a disservice by not showcasing who he grew into after his evolutionary process concluded. Yes, most of his time after prison was spent being a prominent figure in the Nation, but it was important to document his story to the end (including the minor changes he made to his appearance; i.e. - rocking a goatee)

While the time was brief, what Malcolm did after being forced out of the Nation was also incredibly significant. Traveling around the world expanded his world view. Spending time in different African countries and sharing those experiences with the public helped the Pan-African cause. Completing Hajj allowed him to see all Muslims as brothers and sisters, not just people who shared the same melanin content. And finally, freeing himself of the constraints placed on him by the honorable Elijah Muhammad, he was granted the golden opportunity to pursue an agenda that invested heavily in heightening the political consciousness of African Americans. To overlook all of that, in my estimation, would be criminally negligent.

Having said this, is there a case to be made for including another sculpt, without facial hair? Sure. If you wanted to encapsulate only a certain period. This one though, I think, allows everyone to see the man he became after all he went through in his life. It was how the world last saw him, and how I think he would’ve wanted to be remembered.

This is a common misconception...most of what you said there. It’s a narrative that makes Malcolm’s legacy more palatable to folks who lack melanin. So I understand why you would only want to represent this VERY brief moment in his life as if it was the time in his life that eclipsed 90% of his sojourn as a Muslim.
So good luck, I’m sure this will be successful. And I’m not being facetious, I truly want this to be successful but unfortunately it’s not my cup of tea.
Thanks for offering this opportunity. Perhaps the final reveal will change my mind.
