Re: 1/6 [CHEUNGKINMEN] Freddie Mercury "Wembley" (Sculpt PAINT WIP ~ post #486)

I'm thinking a lot of it is just being an odd photo where the colors are getting washed out... there appears to be a lot of greys around the hair line and stubble that are throwing it off; whereas they didn't look like that in the first paint WIP.

Re: 1/6 [CHEUNGKINMEN] Freddie Mercury "Wembley" (Sculpt PAINT WIP ~ post #486)

Yeah, the gray around the edges confuses the eyes a bit IMO. But it does look like the left eye (his left) isn't painted totally symmetrical to the right one--there seems to be more white showing underneath his iris, and between the iris and nose on his left eye--though it could be the angle.

Johnny here are my two cents. Take it for what it is, just a response.

Sculpt-
The bottom lip has that defined cut line. I have been looking over tons of photos and I just don't see his lip having that cut in line. It reminds me of some of Rocco's sculpts where the line is defined by sculpt instead of a color transition. Also reminds me of marble sculpture where there is no color so they carve in the color transitions.

Paint
The mustache is a little too dark. His hair is thick and dark but his stash has a touch of skin showing through. I think that could be causing it to stand out too much. Your early photo shop images shows this. Also the grow line on the top is too perfect. It needs more variety in its path. Yours has a perfect arc and should be a little more jagged.

His eye brows need a little peak towards the outside. Not dark but maybe a hint of shadowing like you have along is hairline. Im sure Freddie had some serious eye liner going in concert but I would pull it back a little bit. I think its either too thick or too dark and so its got a stronger contrast going which makes it stand out too much. I wonder if his face is just too light? Maybe his skin tone should be a little warmer going towards pink. I know he has that grey/blue under growth, but the rest seems to be more alive.

Once again this is just a response. I am by no means an expert. Just something to think about.

Re: 1/6 [CHEUNGKINMEN] Freddie Mercury "Wembley" (Sculpt PAINT WIP ~ post #486)

Yeah, I do think the mustache is a little too dark. I'll upload some more pics and a video, working on those this moment. I'll try to paint another sculpt.

As for the sculpt itself, I don't think I can do much about it now that it's molded and casted :S .

If anyone at this point wants out let me know, the tailor haven't contacted me yet for the deposits.

I am sorry that I've done a halfassed job guys, I am not Rainman :( . I am actually having second thoughts about this release, I don't want you guys to get stuck with something you don't like and it's also not a good feeling knowing you bought something this expensive and not liking it. I feel my abilities are not quite there yet for a release like this.

I will post the video soon, but I think I may cancel this until I get this right. I am so sorry to have wasted your time guys. Again, if you want your deposits let me know, but I may have to refund you all.

Awe man....that is bad news....it appears that you are the consummate professional! So I do understand the reluctance....that sculpt is badass IMO....and you have done some sweet work on the shoes and microphone...I hope you reconsider.

Bud you have not half assed it! Rainman isn't even perfect the problem is people will criticise you for everything, I love it and I am more than happy with it the sculpt is top notch! Have faith personally if I was you I'd do 2 sculpts keep that one and do an open mouth sculpt closed eyes singing, don't put yourself down even rainman can't get a sculpt 100% I am happy with this that's my input and I will be a very proud owner of this. :)

I think you have done a killer job here is an example of a bad freddie (see picture below)

Johnny your work is amazing and that sculpt is awesome, just may need a slight tweek or even just different paint job, don't get discouraged man, I love your work and often show off my oh Dae Su and Rocky figures over some of my Rainman/iminime figures, keep up the great work man!

Re: 1/6 [CHEUNGKINMEN] Freddie Mercury "Wembley" (Sculpt PAINT WIP ~ post #486)

I agree with Robbie that the lip is the part that lets the sculpt down but its still an awesome sculpt.
If there is anyway i can be changed im shore we would all be fine waiting.

Don't beat yourself up about it JOhnny we have all seen it there on the sculpt and no one noticed so we are all to blame :1-1:

What brand paints do you use mate?

Re: 1/6 [CHEUNGKINMEN] Freddie Mercury "Wembley" (Sculpt PAINT WIP ~ post #486)

Hey JOhnny, I hope you aren't getting the wrong idea, as I'm pretty sure most of us are still totally in. But you asked for specific critiques, so some of us have chimed in, respectfully. But of course, you can take or leave the criticisms. Personally I think the eyes can be distracting when they look slightly different, and tweaking that can make a world of difference. I have noticed this in my own attempts at painting, but saw more evidence of this today, when people were freaking out over Iminime changing a sculpt to some videogame character, when in reality the only difference was eye positioning!

And the half-assed thing is totally wrong. That implies that someone gives something minimal effort, and that is definitely not what is coming through in your posts here. I don't think anyone doubts your effort here at all.

Re: 1/6 [CHEUNGKINMEN] Freddie Mercury "Wembley" (Sculpt PAINT WIP ~ post #486)

JOhnny, your sculpt is a damn good one,i think its close to perfect to be honest, and im not saying that just to compliment you!Me spending over 600$ on a custom figure,it has to be damn close to perfect, and im still on your list,so don't think you have half-assed this sculpt.

Could be the pic,but i too noticed the colour difference in the face, the grey-ish areas which is imo the reason it might look slightly off.Looking forward to the video,it will answer our questions.

Since the tailor havent yet to contact you,i think people would feel safer if you could give people an estimate when the Tailor wants the deposit once you hear from her,so they have a chance to cancel if they are not happy.

Re: 1/6 [CHEUNGKINMEN] Freddie Mercury "Wembley" (Sculpt PAINT WIP ~ post #486)

Nice paint, but maybe his lips - little like duck face (I know, Freddie is only one, who can do it right, but I don't know, if you want it so much) and there is plenty of green areas on his face - looks ill for me. I like this project, so I only want little help you from my point of view.

Agree with everyone here... I definitely don't think the fault is in the sculpt and certainly not your dedication to the figure. But the paint application wasn't really showcasing the sculpt.

When looking at the video you posted there is no doubt that the sculpt is badass :lecture

No matter how I recorded the video it sucks. lol. This are the new pics. I think I am going to paint a new one and see how that one goes.

Sorry guys.

The light helps heaps! :yess: The original image shown made his skin look a tinge of grey, but these are so much better.
