Re: 1/6 Joker Jail Cell Diorama

I did some preliminary work today and I here's what I came up with. These are plywood planks that I cut with grain that does not match and the edges aren't squared. Please do not think this is representative of the final product. The production wood will be oak, maple, or pine. All edges will be squared to ensure tight fit.
I think the top color matches better but it's not dirty enough. What I will do is go back over the light stain with ebony or I will rub ash onto the board to get it looking grimy.
Questions, comments, and suggestions are welcome. What do you guys think about the plank widths? I think I cut them a bit too wide. They're 7/8ths of an inch but I think I should go down to 1/2.

This is what ash looks like when applied heavily.

Looking good so far!...You are definitely right about the top color matching better than the bottom, I think that when you dirty it up it'll look very close. The width of the planks look fine to me, it looks as if his foot stretches across two planks so the bench would probably need to stretch across three planks...I'm probably over analyzing things though :cuckoo:

:goodpost:I think you're right about it stretching across two planks. I measured the shoes and they're roughly 2", so that almost covers two planks. I can bring it inside later and take some reference pictures. I'll make some rough benches later tonight or tomorrow to try to get sizing right.

I like hearing input and suggestions, Owl, so keep them coming! Over analyze all you want. And to everyone else, don't be afraid to give constructive criticism. If you end up buying it, you should pay for what you want.

I had some stain that was in the middle of the two shown but it's pretty much empty now. I'll run to Ace this week and pick some up. I need to buy some wire at Hobby Lobby too. Thanks to Hokietwo for telling me what kind he used.

Re: 1/6 Joker Jail Cell Diorama

Would you want the detolf size or the bigger one?

Detolf size is fine for me buddy. So are you planning on doing a full cage around him or the bench and the back rails similar to the Empire cover? I've seen both styles in 1/6. I'll try to find some pictures to elaborate.

I'm thinking bars on the front and back unless the consensus is bars on all sides. Bench will be there on both sizes.

Sure thing, man! When the time comes I'll have those who want one say which sides they want to be left open.

Re: 1/6 Joker Jail Cell Diorama

You can always add your ideas and opinions. Like I said, I want you guys to pay for what you want. :)

And if anyone wants something else made from wood, PM me and we can figure something out.

Re: 1/6 Joker Jail Cell Diorama

I love dioramas - I'd be interested pending final design etc...

Re: 1/6 Joker Jail Cell Diorama

I'll add you! I've got another diorama in the works that will give me more practice with this one. But this one is coming!

Re: 1/6 Joker Jail Cell Diorama

Hey guys, just want to chime in on how great Mudblood's work is. I own 2 pieces from him and they are fantastic! I don't think anyone will be disappointed with these jail cells.

Thanks man! I appreciate the kind words!

Quick question. Would you guys rather have a backdrop for the detolf? Not sure what it would be, I'd have to talk to a friend/business partner about it.
Also, I think mesh screen will be perfect for the tiny bars in between the larger bars. It won't be 100% in scale, but it seems to be the most time/cost effective route. Thoughts?

I think the screen mesh would work fine between the bars. As for the backdrop, I'm cool either way.

Re: 1/6 Joker Jail Cell Diorama

A backdrop might be in the works. Blurred background to give depth and such.
I'm hoping to get this proto shown soon, I'm doing about 5 projects at one time now. 3 are large bases, 2 are dio-stands.

Re: 1/6 Joker Jail Cell Diorama

Hey guys, I'd like to hear some input from all of you on this question. I can go 2 ways with this dio and I'd like to know which most of you would prefer:
The first would be a more expensive, absolutely screen accurate version, or a less detailed/accurate, more affordable version. The workmanship will be the same on both, I won't make the cheaper one inferior, I would just call it less detailed.

That also doesn't mean the cheaper one would be inaccurate, just not as much as a more expensive one. I hope that makes sense. Comments would be highly appreciated, I want to make this for you guys in a way that you would want to buy.
Again, the options would be for making it more expensive but totally screen accurate, or a more affordable one that is a bit less detailed/accurate.
Getting all specs absolutely accurate is much more work than to capture the scene more generalized.
Thanks! :wave
