I did some preliminary work today and I here's what I came up with. These are plywood planks that I cut with grain that does not match and the edges aren't squared. Please do not think this is representative of the final product. The production wood will be oak, maple, or pine. All edges will be squared to ensure tight fit.
I think the top color matches better but it's not dirty enough. What I will do is go back over the light stain with ebony or I will rub ash onto the board to get it looking grimy.
Questions, comments, and suggestions are welcome. What do you guys think about the plank widths? I think I cut them a bit too wide. They're 7/8ths of an inch but I think I should go down to 1/2.
