I got in touch with Corrose about making a Deadwood style Sheriffs badge. He was wondering what the interest in an item like this would be. I have been unable to locate anything that would pass for a Western Sherriffs badge, and feel this would be a great addition. Let me know what you think.

Just found out William Shatner's Toupee, Justified thread has a intrest thread going about US Marshal's badges. He has it already sculpted and is waiting for interest to start casting.

I'd like to get 15 freaks interested in this project, if possible.

Are we talking about 3D badges? Chris made this beautifully detailed decal badge for me, but I would love a 3D version!

Count me in!

Yes they would be 3D versions made on his new 3D printer. I'll post photos of the one I am suggesting. One more in line with the Old West type, like the one worn by Seth Bullock in the TV show Deadwood.

Here are some examples of the type Sheriff's badge I had in mind.

Example A

This is the Deadwood badge I would prefer, but I'll go along with the majority.

Vote on the style you like best and I'll send the resultts to Corrose.

Hey guys, sorry for chiming in so late after OG posted this.
Yes this is something I'm going to see about creating in 1/6.

As far as pricing goes here is what I will have to wait on, once I finish the sculpt, and do an intital 3D print, I will need to see how well silicon will be able to pick up the details in the letters. If it can pull the details correctly, I will be able to make resin copies and they will be much, much cheaper. If the detail just can't be pulled out, I would need to just offer actual prints.

I would need to know which version A-D posted above is the preferred version.

Please chime in with your thoughts

Thanks

Yes please. I'm also interested in the kind worn by the Tommy Lee Jones character in No Country for Old Men.[/QUOTE]

Yes Yodasan, from what I can find, Tommy Lee Jones wore a 5 pointed modern star in "No Country for Old Men". If you want to get in on the older Western star, please pick a style and I'll add you to the list.

Started exploring option A last night a bit.
I took a couple of liberties in that I don't think at this scale you're going to get the best detail in the words doing them as an inner emboss, so I am extruding these details outward, also put a bit of a bezel on the edge of the star shape as well.
In the end folks may want a different version than "A", but this was just an initial peek at how to approach the project, so not necessarily the final design or option.

Really looking forward to seeing what you guys do.

That's cool, Chris, but not quite sure how accurate to the period the raised letters were. I think the badges back then were pressed tin. Rather simple, if I recall. I understand what you said about doing them at this scale. Just thought I'd mention that.

Nothing new. I'll keep you all posted as soon as I know something. Trust me, I won't let this die. I've been trying to get this project under way for some time. Now it looks like it's on the right track.

I noticed that some people were interested in a US Marshal's badge. Go over and log into William Shatners Toupee's Justified thread. He has one already sculpted, and if enough people are interested he'll get them cast.
