Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

From the photo update I saw that he had them in the pipeline for painting. Hopefully soon though, it's been a long time.
Maybe we'll get Ragnar in time for the season 4 premiere. I didn't think we'd wait this long on the heads. I was worried I was slowing down the release. :lol
Oh well. Hopefully we'll see our heads soon.

Ski PM me yesterday to say he starting on the color matching to the body and will send me pictures/post
pictures when he's got some going or finished.

Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

More pictures in Ski's thread. Got a lot of base colors down on skin and hair before
he goes into detail and blending.

I really like how the building up of skin and hair tones show in this picture.

Also, here is the final version on the arm wraps.

Just some minor adjustments needed, like making the leather parts the same width
and making sure the twine stays tightly wrapped.

I based it off an HD picture and it really showed lots of great detail.
The issue is trying to recreate those materials.
The base is a burlap material. I got the finest burlap I could find and
it was still to big of a weave. It looked horrible. So I went to a cotton
and washed it to give it a burlap feel.

Then you have the twine. The actual one's used on the arm wrap
is some kind of bark like twine. I could not re-create it, so I went with
a .5mm cotton twine.

The basic design is the same. Only difference is I went with 3 leather wraps with
2 twines over each and 1 twine in-between. The actual has 4 leather wraps. Again
I tried it with 4 and it looked way to messy.

Let me know what you think. It's the best looking and most accurate option
out of the 4 I've tried.

Here's the reference picture not reduced.
So you can zoom in on it a lot without losing focus.

Looks great great Ike. What are your ideas to keeping the twine tight?

Pretty easy actually. When you cut the twine, it starts to unravel.
Just twist it tight and dip the ends in super glue. Once it dry's it will stay tight.

You can see the difference in this picture.

The arm wraps look awesome! I was just wondering how the project was going and then you posted the updates.

Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

The arm wraps look awesome! I was just wondering how the project was going and then you posted the updates.

I will be finishing up all the arm wraps this weekend.
The belts are done, just need to do a final clear coat and add magnet.

On the prototype I wasn't as happy with the metal rings on the vest.
So I found a thinner gauge that were already soldered closed and
real silver. I just got them in today and they look great.
They are a little more money because they're not plated, but
the 23 gauge/3mm rings are much more in scale then the 18 gauge
I had used on the prototype figure. So the vest will look much better.
(Gauge is in reverse, the smaller the number, the bigger the thickness.)

Sounds like SKI is going to try to knock the paint apps
out sooner than later. He told me he's ready to go into
blending and detail work today. So now we're going to
see his magic at work...:lol

So I will spend the next few weeks getting everything done
and posting more updates. So all I have to do is pop on the
heads and do some final weathering.

SKI does have one of the bodies for skin tone match, so that's why they're only
5 in the other picture.

Remember, this is a grail for me and I won't settle on anything.
The new metal rings(3rd try), the arm wrap materials(4th try)
boots, shirt set up and more. I even had to modify the shield
handle because I kept breaking it off...(not your fault). I'll post pictures
of that tomorrow.

I'm getting this right, so you don't have to.
So it can be the grail for you as well.
With No futzing required...:hi5:

More to come.....

Thank you for the update IKE!

Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

Hunter created some decals for the body. Did this version of Ragnar have the head tattoos? tempted to purchase.

Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

Dwill......our version doesn't come like that, because he wasn't like that in the part of season 2 the figure
is being represented from. He only had a partial Oden's raven tattoo on the head and only on one side.
Much less than what hunter has on his.

Your welcome to mod anything you want of course. Hunter traded for the head
with a painter. So I didn't find out about that until later. So he didn't actually
get the head from me. Or anything else involved with our figure.

Plus he is making his shirtless, where ours is not.
So the body tattoos for sure would be a waste, because you'll never see them.

But again, your welcome to do whatever you want to the
head or figure once you get it.

Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

The body tattoos are for a Sirius Black figure I had. Unrelated to Ragnar.

Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

So everyone has the exact same hands on the figure.
Both a tight grip right and left.

But for the shield hand, I still had an issue with him
having a tight grip, so he could hold the shield in the right position.
It would always slip on the wood surface, causing it to set at an
unnatural angle.

This is mainly because the shield is so realistic, heavy and the handle
is a smooth surface.

So what I did on the prototype is a leather wrap on the shield handle.
Then I placed the hand on the handle, then put the hand on the figure.
It seems to work better that way.

Now he holds the shield at whatever angle I want without moving.

P1160011_zpsndmcj7ir.jpg

Now of course you don't have to break your handle off. But Since I did it was easier
to show it this way.

I just set up a magnet system too just so I could remove it easily. Because I
know I would break it off again...:lol

Now I have 2 shields and each handle is a slightly different thickness.
So you would just have to adjust according to your handle.

Now you can use whatever material you want, just make sure it's not
too smooth. You want the hand to stick to it so it won't slip from the weight of the shield.

Also, here is a set of arm wraps finished and shown on the prototype.

And this picture...which I think speaks for itself....or does it?? :wink1:

Just fine!
Looking very much forward to my King History)

Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

Hopefully both the figures and show will premiere at the same time! :hi5:

That would be awesome. Either way, can't wait to watch the new season. :clap

Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

I forgot to post here. Got PM from SKI about 5-6 days ago
saying he was starting in on the final blending and color.

I thought maybe there would be more updates in his thread
this weekend, but have not seen new pictures yet.

Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

So I was experimenting with a real goat pelt to
see what it would look like scaled down to fit
the figure. Except for a little shedding, I think
it's coming along nicely. Maybe still a bit long
but I'm liking it more and more.

This is what I was planning all along to do with my figure.
So I can get the kings sword and put him in that iconic pose
at the end of season 2.

What do you think now?

He's a pimp right......:lol

Re: [KING OF HISTORY] 1/6 custom-Travis-Fimmel-Viking-figure, Final stages

Looking great man. Any news from Ski?

I heard from him today.

Said is working on the heads today and tomorrow.
I guess he hurt his hand last week and couldn't paint but
I didn't want to alarm anyone.

But he's better now and painting again.
