I think you really didnt get what I meant, its not about how good the films are which dcides wether its licenses are worthy, its the sale and market demand base. Also Im not much into Bebop, my anime wishlist is limited to Death Note's L and Light Yagami, and maybe Onizula Ekichi... but the movies you mention like say True Romance is more than left field... its almost leftist. :lolAnd I sometimes can't see your “narrow mindness”. You continuously call things niche and left field that are just so far from it. And now Goodfellas, Training Day, True Romance, and Heat aren’t even “peg warmers” but Cowboy Bebop is gonna be some kind of Earth shattering release. They would do ok-decent in the US alone? Come on bro. I’m not denying the fact that there is a huge anime fan base. I know anime will sell well because I’m able to see past my own personal wishlist and know that there are a lot of other people out there with different taste than mine. You gotta stop calling things that you’re not into left field.
For mass produced customs the highest market is Asia. I can guarantee you that less than 10% of Asian 1/6 collectors will recognise those pictures you posted (and Odell Young quoted in his derisive post) from Goodfellas or Heat let alone True Romance and Training Day. Recognising actors and film characters are two different things... Im not being narrow minded, I commented that at seeing how ignorant rather misinformed people are when they think whats a great movie means great sale market for its figures...
Figures are literally a part of the whole anime base, there are hardcore Elvis fans, but how many bought the Enterbay Elvis? Thats what Im saying. It doesnt matter how good the film is or how popular it is... it working for a figure collector fan base is the point here.
Anime figures are still the highest selling figures... thats why you keep seeing Medicom release so many. You dont see that many Medicom anime releases being talked or discussed in this board, because the representation in this board is more 'western' by numbers.
Go to any asian board, the discussion and release threads are 4 times as this... again get my point.
Great Popular Movies do not equal to great market for its figures... specially when you are against an Asian Demographic... look at Alfred from Iminime, the sculpt was not liked by members here... few members ordered from the boards... a handful. BUT it sold out... simply on the strength of Asian sales...
Asian sales make or break decisions by companies like HT and EB... Thats why HT made that Anniversary edition figure Of 'Friend', and they made 'City Hunter'. How many guys in the US know the characters to even buy it? But what happened to its sales? They were more successful than the Michael Jackson Exclusive taken out at that time. Thats why I said deriding the fact that Iminime is trying to pursue Cowboy Bebop is foolish, as you have no Idea what an Anime license can mean for sales, and for a company trying to make its first mass license, sales should decide the license they pursue, as things dont work the other way around...
And in the end just calmly think... if Iminime produces 3000 figures of any of the characters you mentioned, what realistic chances are there of them even selling close to the numbers that an Anime licensed character has? Not much, thats why you have a shoddy Brothers Productions making a bootleg 'Heat'.. if these were so 'hot' atleast Sideshow being an American Company should have done something right :dunno
Think about it...
