:lecture blitz, you need to set up a paypal account and a new website. $10 gets you a vote. in the end you show your rainman receipt and you get the $10 back as a ticket to an annual rainman fan dinner & dance casino evening and cream cake emporium.

it's the ONLY WAY!!!!!

:rotfl:yess:

This poll won't necessarily change Rainmans decision, but at least we can hear others opinion and get a clear idea of which outfit is most desired

I'm not against the Quail hunt outfit being made. Myself and turbo were just interested in finding out the most desired choice of outfit.

:peace

And if it's all about getting scene specific accessories, who cares at this point! We're getting a bloody bowling pin and whatever outfit gets chosen, it's not gonna be the one in the end scene. So why not have accessories that aren't outfit specific? I wouldn't mind having his surveying equiptment(for example) with his wool suit. It can be displayed on the side as a defining item(like the bowling pin) instead of fully reenacting the scene.
And if it's all about getting a shotgun then that really goes against defining the character. I rather see his surveying stuff, a pipe and a wiskey flask or even the pistol he used to kill his "brother" then that shotgun.

All of these outfits are impossible to bash to the quality level that is offered straight from the man. That includes the wool suit. Only way to do it is to commission it from someone with equal skill as his tailor. And I think the people who are paying for a full fig aren't looking to bash it.
The tie is different? I didn't notice but if so aren't they both black? And if they're not the same color the tie would be the least of the problems.

Turbo's post on the 2nd page is right. That's not exactly what the wool suit looks like but it is the same idea. It's speckled and textured and has flecks of white-ish grey. That's the nature of a wool suit and that's what makes it more interesting than Reservoir Dogs/Blues Bros./Pulp Fiction type attire.

I don't see how anyone can't agree that the wool suit is the most iconic look for Plainview. If peolple are iffy about the wool suit because they feel it's monotone or can't see the difference between it and a plain black suit and think that it won't make for an interesting figure, then maybe another option should be thrown in the mix.

The tweed jacket itself is equally as iconic as the wool suit and I am a fan of it. I'm just not a fan of it mixed with the rest of the attire in the quail scene. There's several reasons why but I've stated them already and I think they're all valid points. I'll just repeat 2, the whole get up is also monotone and resembles Bill's outfit too much colorwise.

I'd be down for the tweed with this combo and maybe we should throw this ensemble in the poll. (WTF did I just say ensemble?!?!)

TWEED JACKET, ICONIC HAT, LIGHT GREY STRIPED SHIRT, BLACK VEST,
DARK GREY PANTS(may have pinstripes. someone who has the BR please check), BROWN ANKLE BOOTS w/ high lace. WATCH CHAIN & PENS.

(Jacket, hat and vest are all from the quail gear)

One of the most powerful scenes in the whole movie IMO. Everyone who owns the DVD/BR, check for more footage that's cut off at the end of this video. You can see more of the full outfit.

And he mixes the tweed with a lot of other decent looking mixes but the mix from Eli's first sermon is my personal fav. Other examples are in his pitch to the Little Boston people(2nd public pitch of the movie) or this example in the "cut you throat scene"

If anything, wofford is, IMO the no 1 fan of milkshake man. His choice should be seriously considered by rainman. That's all.

Can't say I quite agree on that one mike.

I know woff is undisputedly the biggest TWBB fan however I have no clue why his opinion should be more importantly considered than others because he was always more vocal on the subject.

That's not to say I don't want him to get exactly what he wants. I hope he does.

I'll honestly buy whatever look he makes so my opinion shouldn't be considered with outfit choice unless he asks for my input. I hope that those on the fence get the look that'll get them in the mix.

I will say this though. I find it very odd that with the exception of a few individuals no one was interested in Plainview. Then Rainman showed the sculpt and the bandwagon filled up with project directors.

i will freely admit that i had little interest in this till i saw the movie again last night. it's not a priority for me as it is for some of you and may not even get it with the slew of other things hitting. so I wouldn't care if my input was minimalized. i just found the debate on the outfit interesting so joined in. maybe rainman needs some kind of council of elders to discuss these things :lol i just hope this project can keep as many people as happy as possible... i'll be skiing in hell getting pooed on by low flying pigs.

I'll be happy with any suit really but I just think the quail hunting attire is more visually interesting and as funny as it might sound I think that outfit in particular will add a touch of class to the figure.

Some better pics of the survey/suit outfit. Waxed Double Breasted Shawl Collar Mackinaw coat.

The survey and quail hunting outfits would be more interesting visually than just another 'man in suit' figure but he's likely more identified with the charcoal suit.

Another look at the Quail outfit. That pant style is what is known as a Jodhpur or hammer pants. They flair out and taper in at the ankles

I must admit, this movie was very stylish and overall beautiful from costume design to musical score, acting, directing etc etc etc.

These outfits must be done responsibly by Rainman. That means right material, right cut, right fit. This could possibly be the one figure where the clothes mean more than the sculpt. A remoded Bill sculpt means more attention should be paid to the outfit he choses. The costume design was an extremely important element of the film.

Classic charcoal wool suit had a subtle kind of flecking to it.

Black Suit Jacket w/white flecking (Not as subtle as in film)

Nice research Turbo.

I guess what really throws people off about the suit is it's very dark grey which appears black. And to some that can be chalked up as "guy in a suit". I guess people are thinking Crazy 88's or Pulp Fiction and somehow feel the suit is equally as boring as those because it's dark.
To me it's obvious that if Rainman was to take on that suit and produce it with the craftsmanship and quality that he always offers, there will be nothing uninteresting about that outfit. Check out the official thread and see Turd Ferguson's bash. That's a basic black suit, probably a TTL level of quality and I think it looks killer. When I look at his, I picture how it would look with the right color/texture/fit plus the jewelry and the contrast of the hat and boots, and I don't see boring; I see iconic.

But like I said, I do dig the tweed jacket. If that's what it has to be, I'd just prefer to see it with a different base outfit.

A couple people mentioned that the quail get up is classy. Please don't take offense but that's exactly what one of my biggest problems with it is. It's to "clean" and "light" looking for him. Adding class to this character is as defining as adding a backpack and a shotty. After all that's why this is his least iconic look. It's not really Daniel Plainview. It's him in disguise. Those two scenes of him in the tweed jacket that I posted the videos of, THAT'S Plainview.

I guess it's safe to assume that I'm supposed to be one of the bandwagon project directors? :lol
I will admit that I don't go way back with the movie. I only watched it recently to see what's so special about TWBB that Rainman is choosing to do Plainview. Once I wacthed it, it sent me for a loop. It's been playing more than half of the time the TV is on here for the last 3 weeks. Needless to say I have a new found love for the movie and character. I'm sure you can sense that in my posts being that I feel like I'm making valid, educated points. I'm sure you understand because I know how moved you are by the movie too. If I wasn't passionate about this, and this figure didn't mean anything to me, do you think I'd be going this hard? This isn't gonna be like the Fight Club series where we'll continue to see more versions of this. I'd like to see it done for the first and maybe almost last time, the right way.

And if I was a bandwagoner, I can easily scoop one of those Doc DX(there's 2) from the for sale thread. Or that Pee Wee full set that popped back up on RM's site. Both of those are great works of art to me. Doc looks stellar but Tombstone doesn't mean anything to me. And Pee Wee is one of those crazy unique pieces that you don't see everyday. He has some nostalgic value to me, but not enough to rep him in my collection.

So, I'm all over this because, and I'll dare to say, I'm almost as passionate for this project as you are. So I hope you understand.

First post updated. Need some better shots of the Charcoal suit methinks.

Thing is, while I love the Quail hunt suit because of it's complexity and simple nature, I don't find it all that iconic for the character. The charcoal suit definitely screams Plainview for me. Happy with whatever is chosen really. But it's interesting to see which is the more popular outfit
