Re: [RAINMAN ARTWORK]Restock on all new/old heads sculpts(new painter's pics)

The hypocrisy of these boards.

The same thing with headplay. They got banned and yet everyone buys from them on ebay, especially the knock off bodies lately. I've got a couple of those. :wink1: The difference is, I don't crucify them for it.

Now, what is the difference between Q and the artists here who slightly mod a head from a big company, recast it and sell their modded version? IMO, none. And they do make a ton of cash selling them!! Some really overpriced (again, imo). An old example of this is: The Sideshow Indy premium format head, shrunk, recasted and sold to several members here. One of Q's main detractors (you know who you are) owns this recasted sideshow Indy head.
How about that Dark Knight head from medicom, modded and recasted being sold for the new DX12? (I'm on the list for one, btw)
There are other examples of this happening RIGHT NOW. Just head to the Interest threads to find them. Again, those practices don't bother me. In fact, I welcome the opportunity of owning some of them. I've bought a few here in the past and you can find me in at least a couple of those interest lists for those official and licensed heads, now being modded and RECAST.

Modding changes it into something different. We can argue how different is different enough from the original to be considered something new, but we all agree it has been modified.

A straight recast is different. Babygq is only looking for quick cash off of someone else's work. He is a parasite and creates nothing new.

Re: [RAINMAN ARTWORK]Restock on all new/old heads sculpts(new painter's pics)

I definitely respect Commtech's opinion on this one. This is not a "right or wrong" argument. But I don't think people are being hypocrites in most cases because I don't think folks make apples to apples comparisons in the examples you are bringing up. You are only a hypocrite if you violate a rule or norm that you yourself hold. If you make a distinction between different, albeit similar behaviors, then this isn't hypocrisy IMO.

One thing that factors into my own opinion on this is the degree to which these behaviors affect the community broadly. Because of Q's actions, Trevor Grove essentially left the board. Also, Rainman has drastically changed his policies for selling heads, and Denny Kim has also had his policies affected apparently. Adam was probably also affected by this, though he claims to have stopped doing work because he didn't feel he had the right to. This isn't an argument that A is ethical and B isn't, but rather that some actions don't contribute to boardies having less cool stuff, and custom artists feeling less comfortable on the board, while others do. I think the Darklord weighs these kind of factors heavily.

Having said that, I think Robbie and others who do mods to existing work in order to only complement pieces you could buy officially or from original creators are completely cool in the sense that they only enhance the likelihood that someone is going to be buying an original product. One of the guidelines for what is unacceptable selling behavior on the board is when a recast might directly impact the ability for an original creator (be it Hot Toys, Grove, Rainman, etc.) to make profit from it. That's why straight up Medi recasts aren't allowed on the board. There's little to no chance a 1/4 scale Indy will be purchased with the sole intent of trying to modify that head to be 1/6 scale, and there's no real chance of someone buying an extra Batman figure to carve out the mouth to fit in a cowl. So, those are more acceptable than someone who makes a straight up recast, and thus deprives real artists like Rainman, Beto, Denny Kim, and Trevor Grove of the fruits of their labor.

In full disclosure, my own beef with Q stems mostly from some personal conversations where he came off as very disingenuous and deceitful. He thought I was someone who didn't know better about something and was wrong, and when people are blatantly dishonest with me like that it really bothers me.

Ed, if you want to take an underhanded jab at me and call me a hypocrite that's your prerogative, but I think a majority of the board would say it's apples and oranges. Hell, I showed my 1/6 Indy sculpt to Trevor himself and he was beyond enthusiastic about it. I don't need to tell you how he felt about Q's dealings; and that tells me everything I need to know to keep my conscience clear, really.

Oh and the modded DX12 faceplates? If anything, those increased DX12 sales for HT. If the 1/6 conglomerate even bothered to care about the operation, I bet they would feel inclined to shake Robbie's hand.
