Please point out some of the characters I like that would suggest I have bad taste in your eyes.

I wouldn't know what your into, from what I've read your initial reaction is basically pass on everything Rainman does...until of course you see the final product.

Are you really goin to deny that The Elephant Man would not make an amazingly interesting 1/6 figure?

Or that David Lynch's directing effort in that film wasn't masterful?

or that the reason the Academy Awards created an oscar category for make-up is specifically because of this film?

or that John Hurt didn't give one of the greatest performances of film?

C'mon Man, c'mon :lol

I think No country has the formula. Great cast, great story, Directors, Great screenplay. Its a win for me. But its held it's own, its not like this film just came out yesterday.

I completely agree. As far as a figure, it depends on what you are looking for. Is it a great actor and you find his character memorable? Or is it a memorable film you want to represent?

A movie like Tombstone was not about factual information, it was about the characters. That's why we like Doc and Johnny Ringo. A movie like Traffic was fantastic, but there were so many blended characters, that if you made a character from the movie, you wouldn't be able to differentiate them from any other movie they have been in. That is why a Michael Douglas would have to be from Wall Street or Falling Down. Very distinctive characters. Douglas from The Sentinal, War of the Roses, Traffic, are all the same.

To me, this is why Anton, Bill, Doc, et al, are so popular. They are very, very distinctive. Those characters, and their movies, will stand the test of time because of their originality and distinctive characters. Too many of the bandwagon movies of the past few years will not be remembered in the very near future. Something like the Shining, here we are thirty three years later, still talking about it, same for Taxi Driver.

I was never going to pass on Bickle, only get the head/outfit set. With others I generally get the characters I like if they are executed well enough, and that hasn't changed since the Dude. I would assume the same goes for the vast majority of Rainman collectors. I was swayed a bit by Doc after seeing the figure, but that's because I think the movie is average, and figure excellent. I actually finally passed on Wonka after seeing the final product, but. . .sure, I don't want every movie/character Rainman chooses on my shelf. So if your argument is that this equates to someone having bad taste in movies, then I'm guilty as charged.

The Elephant Man would make a phenomenal figure visually and tbh it probably would sell out eventually. Not because of peoples love for the character or the desire to add it to there collections but because everything Rainman makes sells out eventually! Dexter? Pee Wee? Both generally considered to be at the lower end of the quality scale when looking through his back catalogue yet both sold out eventually.

Personally I wouldn't buy it and I'd be surprised if it truly gathered enough support to be made but hey stranger things have happened around here :lol

I agree it could be magnificent. It's even from a better film than many previous Rainman characters come from. But that alone isn't going to make it sell. Some will buy though, for the brand, for love of the film, or for the interest in having a really distinctive, high quality figure. Supposedly Rainman lowered Pee-Wee's edition size based on lackluster pre-orders. But I attribute that more to execution (sculpt and wrong body) than the character itself.

:clap You hit the nail right on the head, Its about distinctive characters. Anton for sure is instantly recognizable without being mainstream. That combination works well for these custom choices.

Whatever the edition size of Pee-Wee was, it is one of the only Rainman figures never to be seen on the secondary market.:exactly:

Just my opinion, but I don't think the Elephant Man would sell very well to the U.S. customer base. Sure, it would probably sell out because there are so few made and a fan base that is growing daily, it seems. For me personally, although the man and his story are interesting, I would have no interest in have the figure.

I've seen a handful in the Sale section, though not sure if I saw any fullsets go.

If you have, they were snatched up quick. Its one of his most underrated releases. And I'm not just saying that cause I spearheaded it. I've had a few major collectors come over and put forward their regret about not snatching it up after seeing it in person.

I can see that, because despite its issues, it is still a great '80s icon. Rainman's the only one to do it, and I'm sure it is of the highest quality as all his stuff is. I still wish it just connected better with me. That's another one where I was really on board at the beginning, but bowed out after seeing the final product.

Like most RM figures these days they rarely hit the FS threads on here most of the deals are done in pvt via PM.

I do remember the last Pee Wee to sell on here I saw took quite awhile to move and the price was dropped on it at least once moving it pretty much at retail. Belonged to Orrimarko I think.

Not one that impressed me if I'm being honest but then again I have never seen it in person...

I remember man! Wish you could come by and see what it really looks like. You might be totally surprised!

Why would you wish that on me? Then I would feel extreme regret and end up paying an arm and a leg for it :lol

I am glad you really dig it though, and I hope the other owners feel the same way. It definitely has its charms IMO.
