Re: Batman Returns glider Hot toys 1/6

Yeah I was planning on a spandex cloth. However, the idea was to put it over the plastic backing you currently see in the images. Reason being is the plastic backing provides extra support. Hopefully that makes sense!

I think that the cloth would look its best on the folding version, you can still pull it off on the plastic support version with enough cloth draped into the sections so it doesnt look so rigid.

Re: Batman Returns glider Hot toys 1/6

Ok so here's the material I currently am using as the glider "fabric". It's called Duralar, made by a company called Grafix. It's a thin but very flexible matte finish plastic.

You can see how flexible it is in the first pics. It also has some translucency. So you can see how it could pass for the glider fabric, though I'm not yet sure how I might color it. However I am still planning on seeing what I can do with actual spandex.

Re: Batman Returns glider Hot toys 1/6

This is looking amazing! Great job! In my opinion, a lycra spandex or matte, leather-like cloth, is preferable; the only way I envision this being close to screen accurate and visually appealing enough to display with the high quality Hot Toys Batman. I'm going to leave the technical stuff to you though, because you obviously know what you're doing. I'm impressed with the progress, but don't stop now. You're on a roll to something unique and ultimately could be the perfect accessory for a figure being referred to by some collectors as their "grail piece." I'm excited, but I know we collectors have to be patient and let you do this right!

Thanks! I 100% agree a spandex would look amazing. I am just concerned about the support and stability of the frame. If I can ensure the frame is strong enough to not collapse while using a spandex over it will look perfect...and as you said, I'm working on it[emoji41] .

Re: Batman Returns glider Hot toys 1/6

Ok so EXTREMELY rough mock up here... I detached the plastic backing from the frame.

I then attached spandex cloth to the frame with super glue...remember, tough mockup, not the final plan.

So that superglue isn't visible my plan is to attach the spandex by attaching secondary supports to the back of the glider. This accomplishes a couple of things...it sandwiches the cloth and serves as the actual way of attaching it to the frame, and it provides the look you see in the pictures where you can see some supports on the reverse side of the glider. Here are a few as I will probably place them, not yet glued in.

Haha love the quote:rotfl

I used white because I had a whole bunch of fabric left over from another project and figured why waste the right color. Right now the fabric is WAY too loose, so that'll be one thing I need to improve. I also didn't have the double support system in place tha tI am thinking I will use to attach the fabric to the frame.

Re: Batman Returns glider Hot toys 1/6

Ok so it's extremely unrefined right now but I think I've come up with a method to attach the fabric to the folder frame that looks awesome.

What I did was attach the fabric along the upper frame only on the backside. I cut a series of holes and slits on the fabric to allow for different arms of the frame through. I then folded the entire fabric section over the top of the glider, hiding my attachment points, and secured the bottom to the tips of the frame. And it looks great. I have some minor kinks to work out so it looks clean but overall I think it's killer.

Re: Batman Returns glider Hot toys 1/6

Rudimentary attachment system. Sometimes simple is better and it's best to not overthink it! I won't be using a string, obviously, but I think this will be the system. It's simple and it works. And the glider is so light he can stand on his own with it on.

I also built a system to raise the glider slightly so he could potentially even be posed in a flying pose.

I'm painting things today and I got some black spandex cloth. So the prototype might be done soon!

Re: Batman Returns glider Hot toys 1/6

Thanks everyone! So is there still interest in this? I think it turned out great and I would love to get an idea of how many I might actually need to produce..

Re: Batman Returns glider Hot toys 1/6

Hey, guys, so I am awaiting my Returns Bats this week to get some proper pictures of the figure this was meant to be displayed with. Once I have some good pics I will likely be updating this thread or starting a new one with sale information. Did this turn out as everyone expected? Any questions or suggestions before the "final product" is up? Looking forward to getting some into other people's hands... he looks so awesome on display I can't wait to see how he looks in some of your displays:).

Re: Batman Returns glider Hot toys 1/6

Can't wait to see it! Looks good on the DX09, but I think it will be amazing on the Returns.
