Re: Dr. Lecter Gurney

That's all I got for the shackles but I added some pictures from the NECA model just in case :)

Re: Dr. Lecter Gurney

Good shots Nek! I was studying the Blu Ray and those are basically the exact frames that I wanted to post here but I don't know how to rip screen grabs like that.

Unfortunately aside from what you and I both shared there isn't much more reference that can be seen in the film. Any further reference would have to come from behind the scenes stuff or shots of the screen used prop.

We have to be careful when looking at Neca's stuff. They do make cool figs for their scale but they aren't the best source to solely base 1/6 detail on. While the do get things right, they get things wrong too.

For example you'd be able to use Neca's buckle for the leg strap because it is accurate (the front is at least; we never see the back in the flick) and it could be considered to be a clearer look at the detail than the fuzzy screen grab.

But Neca got the lock on the shackles wrong. Neca has them very undersized and black. If you zoom in on this pic you can see that the pad lock is pretty big and is all silver. Also the shackles are tying him to something (otherwise what purpose would they serve) that is unclear in the film. Neca doesn’t really clarify it either

Re: Dr. Lecter Gurney

Thanks man, Fraps is a good screen graber.

Neca toys aren't 100% accurate but I figured it's better than nothing :)

I never noticed the padlocks until you pointed them out, nice catch.

Re: Dr. Lecter Gurney

I haven't forgotten this.
I am working on the drafting as I build some rough mock-ups. It's definitely going to be made from aluminium tubing. Brass, though easier to work with, won't allow paint to stick well. This way the color wont ever chip or scratch off.
Here is a paper mock-up.

And then a test of the aluminium frame.

Re: Dr. Lecter Gurney

:clap :clap Good man! That look's great!

The fig as is feels so incomplete; it's really very blah without the gurney. This will bring the fig up to speed :yess:

Re: Dr. Lecter Gurney

This is great! I'm definitely interested.

Re: Dr. Lecter Gurney

Made some progress today.
I have a feeling Im going to go back to the original idea of brass. Its harder and heavier. It's also a lot easier for me to work on. I just have to sort out the painting problem but I have more confidence there then getting aluminum to solder.

Re: Dr. Lecter Gurney

That's awesome! If I didnt already have fullmetal's version I think I'd be all over this as the size is more accurate.

Re: Dr. Lecter Gurney

Thanks guys.

E, there isn't much I can't make. The question on anything is cheap, fast, or accurate? You can only pick two.

If I had better facilities, there would be endless possibilities. I have been thinking about three really big purchases. One is a small foundry so I can do lost wax casting. The details would be epic and everything would be made of metal. The second is a laser cutter. It would cut down a lot on time. And finally a 3D printer. With those three things, this hobby would be soooo epic. The question then would be how many details do you want?

Re: Dr. Lecter Gurney

I totally hear ya . I am in the same boat . I can only do certain things hre in my little office/collection room.

when i do move , i hope to have a garage or basement area where i can set up all my power tools , I can't setup my drill press , table saw , radial arm saw , ban saw , here . LOL

If you do get a 3d printer , then you will need zbrush or something simular and have to learn to sculpt on a computer , if you don't already know.

I'm just waiting til you do have a workshop and start to pump out complete figures, can you say EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
