Super Freak
I think the eyes might have been painted looking up too high as well. Judging from the original sculpt, you would expect him to be looking more straight ahead.
Marf: are you posting more pictures today? I was curious about the size of the sculpt relative to another figure.
that comparison pic I took with the PF sculpt should give you an indication. The PF sculpt fits perfectly with th rest of my 1/6 collection.
Well, I've sent my email with the order. Does it take long to get an answer?
I think this will look good in hand. The one other difference between the painted and unpainted that I see are the eyebrows. The painted ones look to have more of a classic "HT frown", whereas the unpainted are more relaxed, which seems to help with the likeness. I also think the iris is painted to small, looking to up too much. If you look at Fords pictures, he's got large irises and they almost always touch his bottom eyelids.
I also vote for the unpainted to ship as two pieces - hat and head. easier for painting.
Hey MJ,
First off, congrats in achieving Ford's likeness so well! The sculpt itself is truly amazing.
With that said, I am in agreeance with what a lot of people have been stating about the paint doing the sculpt a disservice. Here is where I see the main issues:
- overall tonailities are a bit exaggerated. There are a lot of painted low and highlights in the paintup. It's giving a bit of a cartoony/blown out effect to the actual sculpt. I think if you softened both the painted shadows and highlights a bit, you'd be looking at a much better result.
- The eyes. As a lot of people have stated, the iris/pupil is far too small and tilted up too much. In reality your bottom lid covers part of your iris and far less white of the eye is seen (especially with squinty-eyed Ford).
- The hair. I think his brow and overall hair could use a bi of lightening up. Right now it is looking very dark. Yes, HF's hair is a darker blond/brown but it definitely had more lighter tufts in he film.
I hope these pointers help and that the production paintup can be adjusted. Again, tremendous work!
