Yeah I dunno, I feel like if that smile could be nailed it would look perfect. Still with his crooked smirk but a little more expressive.... The Rainman one always looked dead to me.

This smile says "Welcome to Wonkas!"

Thanks for the input guys just throwing this out there although it would up costs a smidge I suggested 2 sculpts.

I like the smerk and it doesn't appear to have that chubby look that rainmans did....... I also like the smile.
Depending in how both you guys feel and mike.

I guess it all depends upon how much it would drive up the costs and how much, especially with painting, hair, etc. I would vote doing the one with the smile and see how it turned out, but I do like the neutral smirk too.... its a tough choice!

I don't care if he looks like Rainmans or doesn't look like Rainmans. The goal here is for him to look like Gene Wilder and that is what is important. So smile, no smile, or smirk bring it on as long as it looks like Wonka.

Agreed! I think the smile is just a way to pump some life into the sculpt... is it necessary? No but it could be a fun road to go down. To keep costs down I think I would like to avoid having two heads haired and painted.

Like I said it may be harder to pull off, but it still nails the character in a nutshell. Still with a crooked smile but a little more animated. I like this option to set it apart from the Rainman version. The smirk version could be totally different too. I think the WIP face shape is already looking good.

It really is the epitome of the character, I feel like we would be doing this project a disservice by not doing the classic smirk.

I think we should not be afraid because it has the same source photos, it is a completely different interpretation of the same source material. I think what can set this apart is adding just a little life to the eyes. The rough sculpt already looks to be capturing a lot of it.

I like the smirk too..... My concern with the smile is it's a photo specific pose the smirk seems to look better.

Rainman fans have a right to feel how they feel, however just because Rainman made the figure before others did, does not give ownership of said character. I think this will look different enough that it won't matter.

I agree, nobody will look at our sculpt and confuse it with the RM version. Thinner face, different eyes, classic grin/smirk, different hair, etc. Same source, way different outcome.

The "Rainman fans" never had a problem with Willy Wonka being done again, figures Rainman made have been redone countless times with open arms, what bothered some people was using Rainman's tailor (Yunsil) who did his Wonka Outfit to do yours is a no no, even if "its different patterns and stitching" blah blah, it's still something you don't do, and I've sold my Wonka and I still feel its a no no but its green lite now so enjoy, but don't make jokes that Rainman fans are crying and not understand that what was done is extremely frowned upon in this customs Figure community.

Agreed! No need to overthink it! There is no expression that captures him better than this. Obviously Warner Bros thinks so too! Since it is plastered over all of their book / dvd / Blu Ray covers. I think we owe it to ourselves to not draw comparisons to previous efforts and let this be the best that it can be!
