Sounds like a good villainous pro wrestler--despite everyone knowing it's scripted, their value is determined by how many boos they get from the audience. Folks don't just go to the movies to see heroes win. They go to see heroes defeat despicable bad guys.

:goodpost:
Agree with every word. TOD in general seems really underrated outside of these boards.

It's the best one IMO. And the only one of the movies where indys actions have a direct effect in the conclusion of the story. I've often joked that Indy would've been better off letting the Germans take the ark. There would've just been a never ending parade of melting nazis.

I agree. I love all of the original 3 but TOD always stands out as my favorite. It was the first one I saw as a kid so maybe nostalgia plays into it a little, but I think it stands up the best on its own out of the OT.

Raiders is a classic, but there's absolutely just something incredibly fun about TOD. It's like reading a piece of Pulp Fiction from the 30's; it perfectly embodies that sense of adventure and exoticism present in tales like Doc Savage. The whole heart sequence with Mola Ram is so exciting; as a child, it's one of those things where it frightens you, yet you find yourself peeking through your fingers the entire time, and you just can't look away. I think the character of Indy sort of amplifies that idea of curiosity, with his adventurous spirit and bravery. Every kid wants to be Indy, while watching that. Then, you have the thrilling confrontation on the dangling bridge; Indy versus Mola Ram, head-to-head, and suspended over treacherous waters full of Crocodiles.

God, even thinking about it gets your heart pumping; Indy's awesome sidekick, Short Round, being the perspective character. The whole thing is just an experience.

As a kid, I always loved Raiders most for whatever reason, but I loved TOD, as well. A totally worthy sequel to Raiders IMO, and few movie scenes from my childhood were as memorable as the sequence of events in Shanghai at the beginning. So much fun.

As a younger lad, I thought that sequence was from a different movie. I knew that Indiana Jones wore a hat and a brown leather jacket and he went on adventures in scary temples, so I didn't understand why this guy was in a white tuxedo in a Chinese dinner club.

The beginning to ToD, " Anything Goes" still cracks me up to this day, I love that scene.

agreed, last crusade is my favorite of the trilogy. the chemistry between Ford and Connery was fantastic. Not to mention the film was filled with so many great moments and one liners. "No ticket!"

All of the films are great for their own, unique reasons. I find myself choosing one to view depending on my mood.

I love TLC and will watch it over TOD anyday. I didn't realize so many people hated it until I became a member here.
