Re: [IDM Customs] BTTF 2 Marty Mcfly Air Mags, Hoverboard and Outfit Set *NEW MAGS PI

Pajji, thanks again for all the pics! This helps a lot! I'll adjust the shoes a bit more.

Now I'm just waiting for the slim body from Origami to check the fitting on the shoes and to use the body and have Jen begin the patterns. So it's now waiting time. :p

Re: [IDM Customs] BTTF 2 Marty Mcfly Air Mags, Hoverboard and Outfit Set *NEW MAGS PI

Hey guys, need your thoughts on this one. . .

I don't have any Marty headsculpts to reference to begin with, but I'm thinking for his hat, we can go one of two ways. We can either do the hat as a sculpted piece, but I think it's difficult considering that the sculpt done by Erick Sosa has sculpted hair and relaxed. Most people who wear caps have "hat hair." which is closer and pushed down at the top, and flared out towards the bottom of the cap. I wonder if that will make the sculpted cap look goofy. I can sculpt the cap to make it still fit, but it might look odd since the cap will be bigger to accommodate the head.

A second option would be to do the cap in actual sewn cloth. Jen is working on a pattern to sew the cap in real cloth just on a bald head I sculpted for now. But this might be an option. But again, it might look odd because of the sculpted hair once again.

So my questions are these:

1) Do you prefer a sculpted cap or an actual cloth cap? Obviously the sewn cap is going to cost a bit more because it's really labor intensive to put that thing together, but I think it will look and feel more realistic.

2) Should I try to make a new headsculpt? I'm thinking of sculpting Marty bald in a neutral expression, then make 2 different haired versions - one where the hair is more tight to the head for the cap to fit. Then another normal hair version for regular display.

Please share your thoughts.

I would personally like a cloth hat as an accessory that he wouldn't really wear. I am really happy with the Grove sculpt, and plan on using it. In order for it to look good on his head, it would really need to be sculpted on.

Same. I would like a cloth hat. It'll be more acurate and that's what I like. :)

I agree. Some work definitely needs to be done. Hope we can contact the original sculptors and have them sculpt the hat perhaps because I don't feel like I should take someone else's sculpt, cut it up, resculpt the hair, and then sculpt a new hat for it and then offer it up. I much prefer to just do a new sculpt and then do a cloth hat for him.

Personally im leaning towards the sculpted cap. Clothing of 1/6 figures in general produces mixed results, and I just don't think that a cloth hat will ever look completly right.

Plus not all of us were foruntate enough to get the Grove sculpt.

agree that a sculpted hat would look better, but I'd prefer to display him hatless with the hat in hand so I'd like a cloth hat.

I'd like to see your take on Marty so I vote for a new sculpt by you, one hatted and one without.

I agree with tbay, I have the Trevor sculpt so Id like to display him holding the hat instead of wearing it, so I vote cloth hat.

Hey John, sorry, I got the bodies until Friday and was out of town for the weekend, you should be getting the slim body on Wednesday to start working on the clothes.

I agree on the cloth hat just for display for now, but I definitely would like to see new Marty sculpts from you :)

I finally got the printed hoverboard! There was quite a bit of work, but it was well worth it. I cleaned it up quite a bit and primed it to get it ready for molding. The size and everything came out just perfect. A big thanks to Karamazov80 and Jimmie_dimmick for getting the actual dimensions of the real hoverboard for me to size it down perfectly to 1/6 scale! Here's a few photos with my Detective Mills playing model. :p

Oh wow, that looks great John. Have you decided if you're going to do the headsculpt?

Thanks guys!

Ted, I'm still contemplating it. I really want to, but after reading that Hot Toys has the license, I'm worried they're gonna put the figure out right when I spent a bunch of time and money buying a ton of resin and silicone to cast it up and then have everyone cancel on me. :D
