Ted, I'm still contemplating it. I really want to, but after reading that Hot Toys has the license, I'm worried they're gonna put the figure out right when I spent a bunch of time and money buying a ton of resin and silicone to cast it up and then have everyone cancel on me.

Totally understand your concerns John, that would suck if that happened so I can see why you'd be gun shy.

Luckily I have a Marty sculpt from Erik in case you don't move forward with it so no pressure, though I'd love to have some of your sculpting work.

I prefer customs over Hot Toys pieces!
In the last two years, I started to gain more interests in the small custom runs! I think there are a lot of guys would go for what you're able to do, John!

I just got the body and head from Origami so we'll start shopping for fabrics for his outfit soon. The toughest thing is obviously his jacket. Finding the correct fabrics is not going to be fun since some of the parts have a mesh and others have a rubbery feel and texture to them. But I guess that's part of the challenge.

I'll have some revised pics of the Mags soon. Having the body in hand helps to gauge the size and ankle for height measurements.

Pls. put me down for the full set... this is going to be sick!!! The overboard looks amazing... I don't have a Marty yet, but I'm betting if HT ever releases it, it would be BTTF I, so I'm confident I could switch him out...

BTW, the Sports Almanac would be a pretty cool accessory.

Good post. I used to love hot toys and anticipate every release but now i find myself more interested in the unique small run customs. Look forward to seeing your version of Marty, John.

The Hoverboard is looking AMAZING!!! :clap

Can't wait to see the cast of the Mags and the fabrics you find, especially for the jacket since that's got sort of a plastic/rubber/nylon look to it with a textured pattern.

Hey guys, need your thoughts on this one. . .

I don't have any Marty headsculpts to reference to begin with, but I'm thinking for his hat, we can go one of two ways. We can either do the hat as a sculpted piece, but I think it's difficult considering that the sculpt done by Erick Sosa has sculpted hair and relaxed. Most people who wear caps have "hat hair." which is closer and pushed down at the top, and flared out towards the bottom of the cap. I wonder if that will make the sculpted cap look goofy. I can sculpt the cap to make it still fit, but it might look odd since the cap will be bigger to accommodate the head.

A second option would be to do the cap in actual sewn cloth. Jen is working on a pattern to sew the cap in real cloth just on a bald head I sculpted for now. But this might be an option. But again, it might look odd because of the sculpted hair once again.

So my questions are these:

1) Do you prefer a sculpted cap or an actual cloth cap? Obviously the sewn cap is going to cost a bit more because it's really labor intensive to put that thing together, but I think it will look and feel more realistic.

2) Should I try to make a new headsculpt? I'm thinking of sculpting Marty bald in a neutral expression, then make 2 different haired versions - one where the hair is more tight to the head for the cap to fit. Then another normal hair version for regular display.

Please share your thoughts.
