Like what others have said, its too thick.

You need to have gradiation / transition between the root to the hair etc. I think its only doable for seasoned painters.

That being said, looks like a good job, doubt that I can even achieve that in my current skill levels :lol

Here are some WIP shots of my paint-up, before I start painting the eyes and the make up. I'll also touch up the hair and hairline after I apply the white make up. This was the first time I properly painted skintone, I think it came out alright. I used Darran Carnall's youtube tutorial, that helped me greatly.
Any thoughts, critiques, suggestions before I continue?

You could try resculpting the scars to make them more accurate to the film

Yeah I was thinking about trying that, but I have very limited experience in doing that (only on one Beto Jason sculpt so far, and that's mostly hidden by his mask anyway), so I chose not to try with this sculpt. I did work a lot with washes as per Darren Carnall's tutorial, although that's not designed for a sculpt in this resin.

Hm, I've actually used pretty diluted colours already, with both water and medium, but not to the extent as axecutioner suggests of course. There are probably about 5 layers on there so far I think (both washes and drybrushes), and the skin texture of the sculpt is still clearly visible. I know what you mean though, it doesn't look as good as it could/should. :lol I think/hope the white make up will cover up most of the imperfections of the skintones though. If all fails, I'll just have to strip the paint completely again. :monkey4

Yeah it's pretty green, although that's mostly deliberate. I've never been satisfied with how dark HT paints their Joker hair, and lightened that up in the past as well. Looking at some more stills, I think I need to create a greater contrast between the darker roots and lighter tips though.

You wont have to start again as the make up will hide most of the flesh. If you wanted to trying and change it and add a little depth, mix up another flesh tone but much more on the white side, almost white and add it as a wash. Only add it to the areas where light is most likely to catch and use your finger to dab it in, small sections at a time. I would then mix up some blue, red, purple, light brown and dark brown and flick the paint in. Start with blue, dab it in, then red and so on. You do not want prominent spots or flecks. Once you have done that, add another light, diluted skin tone over the top so all that detail you have applied will sit underneath.

Also dont make the eyes to white as they can look goggled eyed and cartoon ish. Add a very small amount of yellow just so its slightly off white.
Another thing with the eyes, they are a real pain to get right and very much a focal point. Id consider buying some of hunters 1/6 decals . Its alot easier and a lot less nerve racking lol.

there is no right or wrong way. Just have fun and keep tweaking until you are happy :)

Dude, what is your problem? Did MJ offend you somehow to come in here and throw little jabs like this?

Huh? Not at all. I don't even know who MJ is? - it was agoniste86 who was posting - he asked suggestions for any improvements - I'm just trying to help out.

You're in a thread for the Joker sculpt sculpted by MJ and all you do is post pictures of the recasted head you bought on ebay and now you say you don't know who MJ is...that is just offensive.

Is that what the MJ12 is in the title? Honestly, I didn't know what MJ was. I only ever saw people refer to the person who made it as 'the artist'. And I learnt that the recasted sculpt shouldn't be posted so I've stopped.

My post about the scars is meant to be nothing but positive - to help out the guy who is repainting and customising his head.

Thanks for the help. :) I will try out the skincolour/white wash and the flecks.
I actually have some of Hunter's eye decals, although I'm not sure if I'll use them here, simply because I've never used them before. I will see though. :)

Are they big? Since the sculpted eyes are too small the Irises need to be large like the ones in the dreamwork's pics.

This will make the eyes appear larger and thus, enhance the likeness. ;)

there are loads of different sizes so you could go larger. The actual iris may have to be darkened a little tho as the brown is fairly light.

Here are some WIP shots of my first paint up. Comments/suggestions welcome. Still working on hair.

The hair looks too green but hopefully since it is dark green that a black wash will fix it. ;) Nevertheless, great work in blending in the light green of where the hair parts with the forehead. :clap

Oh I figured that all of Hunters would not be the same size but wasn't sure if u had a bunch that were different sizes. The larger the better within reason of course. ;)

Doesn't Hunter offer any darker ones? :dunno

I finally finished my head yesterday. I might actually add some more black smear over his eyes, but I will let him sink in for a few days first and decide if I really want to do that.
I opted not to use the eye decals, because I felt they would need to be painted over a bit anyway, so it wouldn't have made it much easier in the end.

It's hard to photograph the white, the shots wash out the white parts a bit, in hand there's a bt more skin colour coming through in the folds, e.g. around his nose.
I think as a next step I will have to weather his overcoat a bit to look less pristine. At the moment everything but the sculpt is just stock DX11.

Yeah turned out great. Done a great job with the eyes as they are very tricky even for the best painters. Weathering the coat will also enhance the overall look.

Good job :)

Nice paint up! What Freddy Krueger is that in the background? I've never seen a 1/6 fig of him.

Thanks, guys. :) Yeah, I'm really happy with how the eyes came out, definitely my best eye work so far. Buying a new brush just for the eyes was key.

That's a custom Freddy that I put together myself, using Sideshow's sculpt (repainted though). I realized I don't have any new shots of him, so here's one before I weathered the sweater:
