Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

Hello everybody,

I am the sculptor of the sheldon's head, it took some time to approve my membership on this forum. I am preparing the head for 3d print and I need some information from you.

I have to decide which 3d print service to use depending on your needs. Each of them require to print the same object in each material that I want to make available for selling over their website, so I have to limit it to a few materials and preferably one print shop.
The are all rather expensive depending on the material used. Even though I have reduced the shell thickness to only 1mm it still comes out to around 15cm3 for this size.
Each print shop has many pros and cons. This is how I broke it down:

imaterialise:
High Detail Resin is about 100 EUR for hollow model!
Prime gray is about $25
CONS: They do have high shipping costs of about $23
PROS: No upload size limit, so no need to simplify model and loose details

Ponoko:
Super fine plastic = $40
Shipping about $10
CONS: Upload size limit, so I would need to reduce quality

Sculpteo:
Polished white cca $35
White detailed resin cca $80

Shapeways:
White details cca $40
Frosted Ultra Detail cca $50
CONS: Upload size limit, so I would need to reduce quality

Cheers

Awesome head Milos and welcome.

Are you planning on printing each head to ship? I think the most common practice is to have one printed and then mold it and then cast the pieces to be sold off. I for one would have the preference to have the head cast in flesh color for ease of painting. If you need help in this area I could help you out.

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

i would be interested depending on cost.

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

:exactly:

Milo - The sculpt is still a WIP right?

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

I don't think so, I think they're just looking for a printer right now.

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

It would be great if he could get a painted proto done. I'm not quite sold on the likeness. (No offence Milo, just my opinion)

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

Can I please be added to the list too ...

Sheldon is my favourite on the show .. woot woot

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

Not long been into the show and am probabley watching reruns anyway but loved the stan lee episode.
As a stan lee is gunna be made and depending on cost for both I might have a sheldon too:)
Likeness is very good hope you can sort the printing quality issue out and print one and cast many so price is low and more people can enjoy;)

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

You are right, I could choose highest quality service and use the print as master for castings. As I can see there are 5 different 3d printing technologies, and I am realign about them these days, since you can not rely on print service advertising and their numbers.

Casting would be an option, but I never did it so I guess I will make it first available for 3d print purchases only. For the ones who can wait a little longer, I will have cheaper casted models available in some other material a bit later.

BTW: can some of you who did casting, recommend the best materials and maybe some literature I could find in the library.

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

I know "different strokes for different folks" but I find the whole idea of people willing to pay for a custom of this character a little bewildering. :dunno

I think that can be said about many characters that get done, even from Rainman.

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory. Sculptor needs your advice! See post #58

Definately interested as well! :)

I know William Shattner's toupee prints out his heads, you could ask him what services he uses.

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

Very interested, please add me as well.

Re: Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory

Interested.

Will there be a easy way to order a painted version?

I used to hate normal human figures in my collection. Now I like them face to face with a alien, predator, zombie figures, etc. (in this case my 1/6 GORN or ORION)

The character is so slim, would this be the best body to use? I have used it for several of my zombies and my Rainman Caesar.
