Re: 1:6 Heath Ledger as The Joker Painted Headsculpt WIP PIC UPDATED in 1st POST
Very true... it would seem the only way to offer a 2nd sculpt w/o the hair is to make a cast of the first and alter it and then cast from it... but you do loose some percentage of the quality in doing that. Alternatively you would have to alter the original which would prevent future casts with the full hair being made from it.
Just out of curiosity is the option of unpainted casts on the table? If that were an option it would be more feasible to sell the full sculpt as is and allow the individual to modify it (remove some or all of the hair) w/o damaging the paint job.
Its not just shrinkage (besides shrinkage is a part of distortion) rather about the loss of detail and adding of 'noise' with further castings based of castings which are based of other castings.
The original cast is perhaps till date the one with the most integrity.
However the ones which people buy and find over ebay are casts with unverifiable origin - therefore you cannot trace what generation of casting it is.
Its very similar to the bootleg tape trading of early days. If you were a part of it you will remember how quality degraded over generations of tapes copied over from copies.
Similarly the original cast was the one with actual details and proportion closest intact. Details which get washed out and deformations start sinking in as copies are made over same moulds and moulds based on already deformed copies.
I hope I have been able to explain the phenomenon properly.
