I do agree with you! I've just finished two customs: a prison Joker with no make up and it's not so bad, and I've resuculpted the nose, reprinted and haired another one and the likeness is great. The nose really throws it off!

Yeah it does especially when Ledger's nose was wide and not narrow like the DX11 one. I don't get how Hot Toys could not sculpt the nose correctly as it is one of his distinguishing features.

In hand, I think the dx11 head has maybe bout 85-90% Ledger likeness. Dunno why it won't translate well in photos, which get me excited to receive this as the MJ sculpt looks 95-97% Ledger likeness, so it must be very beautiful in hand.

I don't know what you mean man, I think it looks pretty much the same in photos as it does in hand, which is why I was looking for an alternative sculpt. I guess in some photos it looks worse because they take pictures too close or in the wrong lighting. Nevertheless, this sculpt is a major upgrade IMO.

Just personal preference. I really like the head, it's all bout the angles and the eye position. I'll try to take a pic of mine later.

Yes, the hair on MJ's is more accurate - its shaped like Vaders helmet shape. That being said, I'm not a fan of full rooted hair for 1/6 scale though be it rorys or MRM's. I think the best would be a combination of both like Adam's. Though I'm really liking MRM's 1/4 rooted ver.

In my country, people are buying recasted SS and displaying them like they would with the original piece. And feel proud that they get to enjoy the same statue for maybe 1/10 of the price (these are usually for older statues that cost 5-6X original retail value since they are rare). These are rich collectors too, so many of the average collectors are kind of hesitant when trying to remind them that the product they buy is not legit. Their justification is usually "Its the same thing, looks the same, and I'm not stupid to buy it 5-6X more expensive when I can get it at this price, they are just toys, no big deal."

Not just your country Mike. I've seen plenty of folks from the U.S. and UK saying the same on these very boards, particularly in the official HT threads from folks who don't care about the custom world, but are interested in cheap recasts of HT heads for their Captain Americas or whatever. I do think the group that actually cares about recasting is pretty damn small, relatively speaking, because it's folks who actually buy customs from custom artists, and on top of that, value the artists and want to reward them for their work. Of course, even among those interested in customs, there is a fairly large segment who don't give a **** about whether what they own is legit or not, so long as they get a nice piece.

That's too bad, as they have no idea that these kind of stuff discourage the artists to work and offer stuffs.

With that being said, it seems once the Bill head he offered is sent out, it's 99% chance that it'd be recasted again as it's just too hard to filter out the legit buyers. Didn't Denny Kim experience same thing, or Trevor did? It was a limited to 3 heads or something if I remembered correctly. 3 heads and it still got recasted. :horror

Look at his thread rorywan. Here is my joker, yes rooted hair, but I was a fan of it and also liked the pers still are operable. He changed the nose, chin and eyes as well as rooted the hair. I am happy with it, and that is what counts. I know some might not prefere it, but I did.

Your guess is just about as good as anyone's.

I think hes pretty sensitive when it comes to folks recasting his work, while some artists like Trevor or Adam even though they dont like it, they know that once the sculpts are out there, theres not much they can do but hope that the collectors respect and do their best not to buy recasts.


Chances are as soon as he sees his work being duplicated and sold for $30-40, it'll discourage him to offer his future work.

TBH I can't really see much of a difference, I think the jaw shape needs to be changed as in the mod below.

A few people wanted him to sell them his head to, so yeah a lot of people were amazed by it.
