Interesting that we've gotten to the point where it's more efficient to print multiples as opposed to printing a master and casting duplicates.

Probably magnitudes quicker this way, just snipping the burs and sanding a single point down, as opposed to sanding off seamlines and pour spouts. The time you save is probably worth the higher materials cost.

Back in my day ( ;)), cleaning a single 3D print would could take an hour or more. You'd have to waterjet off all the waxy support material and still have to sand the stuff that wouldn't wash off ... then you'd have to be careful that you weren't sanding off the detail.

So you have some things "correct" and some things not so much, but overall I agree with the sentiment .

It's DEFINTELY more efficient to print multiple copies than cast them. However the greatest benefit printing has over casting is the ability to print things that would literally be impossible to cast. Printing things with hollows and crevices to hide wiring electronics, or because the item is simply so complex that casting just wouldn't be feasible.

And yes printing is magnitudes quicker, but snipping the supports and sanding down a single point oversimplifies it... because properly supporting a model usually means a lot of supports are needed.. the key is to place them efficiently and where they will be least noticeable. Take a look at the guns.. look how many supports points there are. Snipping each one and then sanding... 45 times over... it takes awhile o_O.

And materials cost... for the most part, printing ends up being vastly cheaper than casting for SMALLER object. Larger objects that take up a lot of resin? That's a different story.

And you mention waxy support material. That is simply a different type of printing altogether. It's still a commonly used method but usually by larger 3D printing services such as Shapeways. That type of printing can produce phenomenal detail, and luckily if you use a service like Shapeways they do the wax removal and most of the initial cleaning as part of their service.

I'm working on like 15 different projects. This is happening and in progress but I try not to announce too much until I'm actually ready. Otherwise I get people annoyed that I'm not meeting deadlines and such that I never should have set in the first place. Just rest assured everything is moving along... more photos of progress will come this week and I'll have pricing details soon as well.
