Well, that's a little disappointing, but kinda thought it wouldn't happen.. I'll be waiting patiently... Do you think it would help if we just concentrated on just one character instead of the 3?

I was under the impression that if we showed interest for one, two, or three, it was just to show interest, not necessarily for one over the other.

Me too! I wonder if Denny would accept deposits as good faith to show that those on the list are truly serious buyers?

I wouldn't want to put money down on something, unless I know it's gonna happen. At the rate this thread is going that could be never and so I don't see a reason to do it. If Denny decides to make this, then I'm all in and he can take my money for whatever version is listed :)

It was sort of a poll to see which character was the most popular. I did email Denny about the idea of deposits, though, but I've yet to hear back.

Exactly. Right now we just don't have enough of the custom collectors on board for any version, so it's not looking good. Only time will tell if some of them change their mind, or not.

I wonder if part of the problem is that there is so much going on, many different items available, that is is not a priority like it is to us. If things were to slow down with minimal offerings, I could see much more interest.

I understand what you are saying. The way I look at it is, I wouldn't mind if Denny said that if 40 people were willing to put up $50 each as a good faith deposit, then he would do the project for sure within a certain timeframe. Then we would know for sure it was a go, we would know the approximate time on the schedule, and we would have our spot held for the figure. I don't think I would give half up front and wait 6 months, etc. But, I wouldn't mind showing my support and putting up a little so he knew we were serious and he wouldn't lose half the people when it came time to order.

You know, what Denny and others (that aren't old geezers like me) might not understand is that Duke has staying power! In other words, if there are 25 of us and he is looking for a number around 40, so make 40 (15 extra). They will sell, just like when word got around for Clint. I believe that they(unintentionally) make a mistake by closing orders. Take orders, make some extras, and then sell those extras at a premium when others hear about it. These other figures being offered are "one picture" figures for the most part. John Wayne's shelf life has been proven, so why not augment your stock and cash flow with a sure seller that will continue to sell as others hear (about a positive buying experience from iminime) over a period of time? I'm not holding my breath on this, although I'm still in..

I agree with you. In 50 years from now, John Wayne will still be talked about. A lot of these other flash in the pan characters/actors will not be remembered.

I think if we could get 40 people to put their name down, then this project would get the green light and we wouldn't need to put a deposit down. It would just eventually happen cause people are saying make this figure for us & it's something Denny has expressed interest in. Now, I would be down with the deposit idea if that reserved a spot for a figure and the list was very limited, but the way they do POs now, I don't think it's necessary. I think a lot was learned from the Clint Cowboy experience and they leave the items open for a long time, so people can get a figure if they want it. It just really comes down to us bumping this thread and trying to get more Freaks on board when some of those other projects get completed by iminime. Maybe some people will give this thread a second look and put their name in and make this figure a reality.

I missed your post Geronimo while I was typing mine. I completely agree and you make some excellent points. You should join my friends list :wink1: You too greatlakes6:) The Duke is ranked 13 on the all time Hollywood icons list. I don't see him ever leaving it :lol

It's not even a question on if Duke is ever leaving...he has never left! Any business model (restaurants for example) always includes "tried and true" offerings and along with specials. The tried and true offerings provide a steady cash flow over a period of time, while others offer seasonal (or special) targeted offerings.

And if you think about it, those of us that sign up before even seeing a figure or prototype, should be offered initial pricing. Once we get the figures, post pictures and offer positive comments, the figures can then be offered at premium pricing. Again, all successful business models offer this. Why these interest boards do things completely opposite really does not make sense. They get some initial funds from those who happen do see the thread, but do not keep limited stock to offer at premium prices once more marketing is done...

If you think about it, if they had created some extra Clints, people would not even consider the pirated heads...they would buy the originals. Iminime lost out on sales..it's because of the business model used...

Excellent points from everyone here. I'm definitely in it for the long haul no matter what version of The Duke is made. Yes just like Clint, Wayne will always be around and never forgotten. I just know that this figure will be made.:)

Agreed. John Wayne, just like Clint will always be around. I do believe that the Duke figure will be made, sooner or later, hopefully sooner. The romanticism of the Old West will never be lost. These are larger than life characters, whether real life or actors portrayals.

I remember someone mentioning in Velvet Morning's Captain Nemo thread that he'd be a great fit to do the Duke, since a run of 15 figures or so is pretty average for him. Has anyone talked to him seriously about maybe doing Wayne, at some point? Seems like that might be more realistic than waiting on more interest for an Iminime version and VM's work is top-notch.

I wouldn't mind either as I have made many purchases from him. I know he mentioned wanting to do a Butch and Sundance as well.
