Re: Moe Productions/ MG2065 Robin Williams Popeye - Robbie's Paint/Outfit update page

Hi Mike. Can I upgrade to DX set please?

Re: Moe Productions/ MG2065 Robin Williams Popeye - Robbie's Paint/Outfit update page

Seeing this set haunts me......... Such a staple of my childhood, and an amazingly well executed figure...

Is it too late to get in on the full set?

Is there a way to blend the Forearm Sculpts colors to match the Upper Arm and Hands more?
The Forearm Sculpts really stick out cause of the different shades.

Agreed! I also think it needs to taper a little more at the wrist. What material arms made of? I remember reading a while back that it was a silicone material of sorts? How long would they hold up? Also maybe a little something in paint to illustrate how fuzzy his arms were. Just throwing that out there. Love this piece.

Re: MG2065/MoeProductions - Popeye - Final pics pg7 *Deposits needed

The arms are made of silicone. They are a bit tricky. Changing the tint is easy, I just add more brown, etc. to the flesh tint. This is the second cast and I thought it looked pretty close so I used them. I'll keep working with my formula to match with the face/body,etc.

Changing the shape around the wrists or elbow is a challenge. The core mold (which is a cast of the TTM19 arm) fits into the silicone mold after I have poured casting silicone in. When demolded, you pull out the arm which has the sleeve and you peel off. You're left with a prosthetic looking piece that can slide on top of the action figure's arm. So with that said, making the layers any thinner would cause the possibility of inaccurate castings or worse yet, thin spots that run the risk of breaking and appearing transparent. I had those issues with the silicone ninja turtle so I didn't want to make the same mistake with this guy.

The life of the silicone is not an issue according to smoothon.

I think the Shape Looks Great. Just the Color is off.
The Head Color Matches the Arms & Body. But the Forearm Color doesn't match the rest of him.
He could use some painted blond hair on the Forearms too.
Outside of the color, I think this piece looks Really Fantastic!!

It does look good overall but my eye keeps getting snagged on the forearms. I don't have any useful suggestions to make improvements for the way the hands join the forearms. Maybe when the color of the forearm attachments is matched better the overall look of the hands+forearms will improve.

I imagine it is not an option at this point, but I peeked at the movie recently. The transition there is hidden by the shirt at the elbow in the film, so the sleeves would need to be a hair longer. A proper futzing could also remedy that.

I would be curious to see it with the color tweaked on the forearm, that might be enough.

Apart from the skin tone it's perfect..... I can't see it in the pics but Just watched this and noticed for the 1st time not only does he have stupidly hairy arms but he actually has 2 tattoos. Can't wait for this!

Robin Williams was notorious for being hairy... Maybe they saw it fit to add it to his fake arms too haha.

Like Mike said, the arm sleeves are modelled over the 19's arms. What you could do is use bigger fists, like the one's included with the T800 ?

I'm reworking the Popeye forearms in resin. They will be painted to match the head sculpt. I'm hoping to have the final sets photographed in the next week or so.

Here is a work in progress shot of Sweet Pea.

Very excited about the arm revisions! The sweet pea looks spectacular.

I just took a glance at the movie this morning. I remember being a kid and renting the VHS constantly. Fast forward 25 years and it still hits me with the nostalgia. I think the movie was way beyond its time. I found parts of it grating even back then (Olive Oil mostly haha), but I absolutely loved Robin Williams in it.

I find it funny now after so many years that the town itself still exists as a theme park.
